Actually, it's @·3=<:=. Not that that's much better, so maybe I should keep my day job.

Sir or Madame Moderator/Moderatrix:
I am asking why it is that the original conjecture thread was (and is) in news (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1345268/posts) when this, the thread about the actual episode was regulated to chat?
I think it is only fair that the thread about the reality be posted alongside the thread about the fantasy.
Your humble supplicant:

Worst episode ever. I thought that was CABF08.
To my mind, it lampooned the proponents of gay marriage as being a bunch of people who want to make a quick buck while mocking the American family. While the humor may not have been as good as on some episodes, I had no problem with its political bent.

That's my point.
It not only lampooned the takers, it clearly demonstrated the logical flaw in gay "marriages." Whenever the subject comes up, I ask the question, "why two?"
No one has an answer for me. When they throw it back on me, I remind them that it takes 1 man + 1 woman to procreate. And that the nuclear family is the basis for all western civilization for thousands of years (note, I do not use the Biblical argument so I undermine any anti-Christian arguments they have from the get-go [although I hold it in reserve for Catholics and so-called 'liberal Christians']).
I have yet to get a rational answer. It gets really good when I say "why not brother/sister?" About 75% of the time, they fall into the trap -- their answer "well, you have the mutant thing.." at which point I drop the jaws -- "so, this is about having sex, not love, right?"
They absolutely cannot win.

Arguments for polygyny are actually far more compelling than those for gay marriage, even though for some reason proponents of gay marriage consider them absurd.
After all, the purpose of marriage is to ensure protect the right of people to know the identity of their offspring (unless, by their own actions, they forfeit such right).
If a man marries five wives, he will know that any children they bear are his, and any one of his wives bearing a child will know that it's hers.
Although there are practical reasons to forbid polygyny, it increased the perceived value of women. In Old Testament times, someone who wanted to marry a virgin would have to pay her father. In later times, a man who had a daughter would often have to pay someone to marry her.

Well, good. Now when people say, "You only quit watching because of the gay marriage episode, didn't you, you right-wing homophobic freak?!" I can honestly say, "No, actually, I heard that that episode was actually fairly conservative on the definition of marriage. I stopped watching because the show had gotten so crappy."

polygyny may be in play in the argumentation world, although I point out the nuclear family argument.
But not incest. Again, is marriage about progeny (which opens the avenue about intersting discourse about polyguny, et seq.), is it about state-sanctioned sex, or is it about "love?"
They can't win, since their "arguments" are fluff.

And, that is all the difference.
I haven't watched for a while, but I catch it on the by and by (just like Family Man, and, less frequently, the one about the hick whose name I can't remember right now).

I agree. Just finished watching it and I thought they got both sides equally well done. Plus some of the best Homer lines EVER! But in the end they did show the foolishness of just running amok with marriage. Very well done imo.

And I think it stinks that this discussion is back on chat, while the discussion of what didn't happen is on f-news.
