I noticed they didn't use dual Opteron 244s. Why? Because it would kick the crap out of the G4.

Perhaps... but according to the website:

Instead, they are letting us test a more current model with Single and Double 2.6GHz processor PCI-Express bus.

I think AMD just released a new Ghz AMD64 processor, available as an MP also. up to 8 way MP . not yet available at newegg.... This one is though:
