Hallo eveybody!
I've a question for you!
Last summer I bought a calendar in NY (actually I bought it on the top of the Empire State Building...). Now, I've read on it that the 21st of February it's the "President's day".
What a strange celebration! We don't have it in Italy.
What do you do in America and what kind of celebration is it?
Tell me more, so I can join you!... Because... I ADORE YOUR PRESIDENT! :-)
"Tell me more, so I can join you!... "
If you are an American, you go to the nearest mirror, look in the mirror and say:
"You are the luckiest people on earth to have such an honorable, and courageous leader".
Do you have a holiday for her?
I don't work for the Government, but it is one my company's few paid holidays. I wonder if it is a state-mandated thing here in California.
We also have one floating holiday we can use whenever we like (we only get 1 day off for Thanksgiving). Some people use it for MLK, others for Veteran's Day--I usually use it to make Christmas a longer vacation.
The mall's usually have some pretty good sales. Otherwise, you just have a day off. No mail, banks are closed, and government offices at all levels are closed. No school (on any level) either.
How do we celebrate it? Mattress sales of course!
Because... I ADORE YOUR PRESIDENT
Gratzi!
It's like a snowboard, but it doesn't have any foot bindings and it's shorter, and you ride it on skateboard ramps covered in snow..
Joke, right?
Just Google it!
:)
And I love Italy. You have a wonderful country.
It's not for the current President. We tend to honor our dead Presidents and cazzegiare our living ones.
Robert E Lee was never president buddy. You lost, give it up.

What do you do in America and what kind of celebration is it?"America used to honor its first President, George Washington, AND Abraham Lincoln as separate Holidays in February.
It's now referred to as "Presidents Day," and the way most Americans "celebrate" it is by going shopping.
So essentially, it's an 'Holiday-In-Name-Only.'
I love your country...
Can I join you?
Actually... George W. Bush is the world's President!
;-)

Yes, "RICE IS NICE!!", but risotto is better, and pesto is awesome...
Many things posted on an open forum like FR can be 'Google' searched.
The whole point is to get a discussion out of a subject matter, hence the topic GENERAL/CHAT forum.
