Lance Armstrong says he will aim for a seventh victory this summer. . Armstrong has won the Tour for the last six years. His 2005 racing schedule "will include this summer's Tour de France, where he will go for a seventh straight victory," his team, Discovery Channel, said on Wednesday on its Web site. . "I am grateful for the opportunity that Discovery Communications has given the team and look forward to achieving my goal of a seventh Tour de France," it quoted the Texan as saying. . The announcement ended speculation about whether Armstrong would skip this year's Tour, the biggest in cycling, to focus on other events. . Last year, Armstrong became the first cyclist to win the Tour de France six times. . "I am excited to get back on the bike and start racing, although my condition is far from perfect," Armstrong said in the statement. . Armstrong will start his season with the Paris-Nice stage race in March. He will then compete in the Tour of Flanders on April 3 before defending his title at the Tour de Georgia in the United States later that month, the statement said. . Armstrong added that he and his friend and team manager Johan Bruyneel "will evaluate my fitness later this spring and possibly add some races to the calendar." . Olaf Ludwig, the head of the T-Mobile team which includes Jan Ullrich, a former winner, said he was not surprised by Armstrong's decision. . "I thought he'd race," Ludwig said. "His sponsors are not going to leave their best rider out."

Meanwhile, Jeff Gannon, who turns out to be a gay prostitute as a sideline to his conservative reporting, is defended to the death.
Thanks for the ping. Yes, I still have it, but I'm in DC for CPAC - the TDF Word file is on my home PC. I'm not going to have much time to do my ping lists for the next few days.
Looking forward to seeing Lance try for #7!
Not to mention, he didn't meet Sheryl Crow until after his divorce. I would guess that the fact that he trains like a madman would have more to do with it than any other woman. It is hard to build a good marriage when you are always gone. He admits as much in his second book.
As far as her being liberal, who cares? He hasn't said anything political as you said, not to mention he is a very good ambassador of our country around the world. He wins which as far as I'm concerned is what America is all about. Not to mention he does it with dignity and not a lot of mouthing like some of our athletes.
I almost got thrown off this site for criticizing Gannon's activities.
Agree completely with both of you gentlemen.
(green iguana: found my ping list... thanks for the heads up!)
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my Tour de France 2005 list.
In addition, due to Lance's previous cancer, he doesn't dare use the stuff on the performance enhancing substances list (esp. in the roid category) - no telling what it may wake up.
As for EPO, I could see one time when Lance was using EPO - during chemo and radiation therapy, which is the approved clinical use of the drug. However, that was when Lance was at death's doorstep, and the question was not whether or not he's even be riding again.
This morning on ESPN2's Cold Pizza, one of the panelists was insisting that Lance was on the juice, and he was geting a pass due to "past medical history", and after the cancer the only way he could compete was to be on the juice. Then again ESPN is owned by Disney, which puts them in the same league as the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys (TM).
He would actually be equivalent to Barry Bonds.

It bothers some people to think working harder and smarter than everyone else still works in this day and age. We should have advanced beyond that to letting the guy who really wants if right?
I thought he was married.
Anyway, I hope he starts to race in other races than just the Tour. Only if he wins some other major races will he approach the Eddy Merckx fame, the greatest cyclist of all times ever.

And he would have won the white jersey too, if there had been one then as he had just turned 24. The Cannibal was freaking amazing!
Strictly speaking, blood doping is not using drugs.
I know. I posted my taking drugs post just from vague memory that Tyler had been caught in some sort of infraction. When, I googled the story, I remembered the specifics.
Blood doping has used to (is?) a huge problem in cross country sking which I used to follow closely being a Norwegian and all :-) When drugs like EPO appeared on the scene that took over, but as testing methods have improved there are indications that some people have gone back to old style blood doping.
Cheers.
He didn't meet Crow until after he and his wife had separated.
And he didn't "leave" his wife. Both he and his wife say it was a mutual decision.
Dang, I wish I could persuade my wife to wear that dress.
Oh. Thanks for the info. I get upset when people put their children through all that. How do you know?
There was a long thread a while back on Armstrong's divorce. Basically, his wife complained he was always training and competing. Kind of a strange thing to complain about since she knew what he was like when she married him.
Their separation was mutual and they're still on friendly terms, they just realized that they didn't really have a life together anymore.
He met Crow at a cancer fundraiser, IIRC. She actually moved to France to be near him while he was training for the last Tour De France. It's kind of interesting that she was willing to do that while his wife was hesitant to leave Texas to be near him during training season.
I think Freepers give Sheryl Crow too much of a hard time. True, she was anti-war but she has performed for the troops on several occasions.
Alright, thanks.
