I need some help with CD drives (Vanity)
February 12, 2005
Posted on 02/12/2005 1:50:43 PM PST by Howlin
I put a music CD that came with a book into my computer last night, played, and now my computer won't recognize either my CD or my CD writer.
I've tried everything; Norton, Restore, rebooting.
Does anybody have any suggestions about what I might try now?

Is that what cured your computer? Two registry alterations you did?

Howlin, glad you tracked it down- I was away from the computer last night except to check in for a fast look, and didn't have a chance to do more than skim the replies.
We have tech help here as good as any of the techie forums I visit- once you wade through all the "are you logged in?" fooling around.

Sure beats messing with the connectors inside the computer......which I don't mind but .....
So what was the culprit in your CD recognition problems?

I lived in Cinti for over a year.. when you were a youngster. It was the home of my hubby's family.. The white Oak area. It was the WORST snowstorm season (77 I believe)) they had in a long time. It was bitter bold also. Not good snow to play in. We had out of town guests & they were snowed in with us for many days.
Here near Cleveland our high bill was due to a big house, mom who is 86 & always cold (she stays in her room w/space heater in addition but still thinks the house "has a chill'. The home could be considerably cooler for me. Just put on another sweater.
When the oil furnace died a few years ago I decided on a gas. The price then was lower & the fuel cleaner.
I bike in your area now & then.. start around Yellow Springs & go north & south towards Indian Hills. The little Miami trail. Lots of nice communities to explore on the trail & take cross roads thru communities & countryside. Loved the tall stack festival last year. My the waterfront has changed. When I lived there the Ky shore was ugly industrial & a haven for ladies of the night. Now it is a showplace. Cleveland's waterfront on Lake Erie has had much of the same metamorphosis in same time frame.
Quick note...I am now responding to your note. Hope someone was able to help Howlin.

You guys aren't worth a damn when a someone's M$ installation is hosed. Where are you clowns to lend a helping hand.
Go blow yourself. Some of us have lives. We don't spend every waking moment on FR.

OK...so are you going to give the "play by play"...on how you solved your problem?
OR, did you already?

Well, six hours later, from post 417:
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
It took all of 2 minutes. :-)

You're a day late and a dollar short. You Micro Softies were of no dang use for Howlin's problem. It's been fixed already. With the same reg edit you posted but fixed ages ago.

Remind me why I care. I don't spend every waking moment on FR. It's kind of hobby thing for me. I would suggest that you get a life. And, if one isn't available, a clue.
To: Bush2000
Busy having a life.Well, you don't have to be so snarky about it; so do we; that's just what we were doing last night.
