"Bump To The Top" - every time you post to a thread your post moves the thread to the top of this forum. If people don't have anything to post but want others to see the thread, they just type 'bttt.'

Welcome to FR.

I was not even kicked out so fast from Salafi Islamist sites telling the Imams to be nicer to women!

My only advice is that you are trying to apply logic where none exists(or wanted). Opposing viewpoints are welcome here. Just remember that this is Mr. Robinson's "house". If you treat it with respect even liberals are welcome here (see MurryMom)

The American Indian question here isn't as cut and dried as all that. Many Americans have Native American blood (mine from fifth and sixth Cherokee great-grandmothers), but many do not even know about their ancestors all that well. Most of us just know we are mostly mixed blood here in America. . German, Italian, English, French, Scots, Scots/Irish, Native American, African-American, etc.

Welcome to FR, if you can survive the Viking Zot Kitties. (Once cute kittens turned into Cute Viking Zot Kitties.)
The next hurdle is all the disagreeing posters. One must be able to take disagreement on FR.

Wow you people are fast!

Anyway, I think Iraq was a very good cause and I am glad that Italy gave support. Actually we are a distant third after USA, UK.

I'm very worried about Islam. In this my heart is totally with Oriana Fallaci, who is a big American Patriot, though she is Tuscan as can be.

When the KOR and BITSP (kissers of rugs and Butts in the sky people) attacked NY, she was more upset than scorpions in a frying pan.

I think this is a good place. I was only called weird for not liking Coca Cola.

The truth is I love Coca Cola... so it was only a test.

The Free Republic is NOT the mirror image of the Democratic Underground. There's a rather wide range of opinions, political colors here.

I came here via the Democratic Underground also. A coworker asked me to look at that website during the run up to the election. The very first thread really set me back - the hate, complete lack of logic, etc. It did mention Freepers, so I was curious and found this site.

As to rationality at DU - won't happen. :-)

When the KOR and BITSP (kissers of rugs and Butts in the sky people)...

Now that is funny! I've been around for a long time and have not seen those acronyms before.

I love Italy. Spent nearly 2 years living there while in the US military and toured all over the country. I plan to visit again in the Spring of 2006. Regards,

MoodyBlu

Ciao Roses,

Then you understand. In Italian forums we expect crazy people, tough talk, sarcasm. I used to go to the Unità forum to start debates. Not even they kicked me out for calling them followers of a murderous ideology.

I was ready for insult and robust opinion, but terribly shocked to be kicked out without a warning.

In Italy we call Romano Prodi "Mortadella" (a type of baloney). The man is unsupportable, always mumbling altar boy style homilies.

Silvio Berlusconi is okay, Fini is better

But Italy is a different world. In the past we've had fallen governments for months and the people didn't even notice. In fact it was better.

The fundamental difference I think is that you are citizens and we, like most Europeans are still subjects.

You can get angry with the California Governor and kick the man out and then elect a Schwarzenegger, we just sit and suffer. And of course for us a body builder can only be a body builder, an actor only an actor. Your past success instead of being a plus, is placed before you like an obstacle.

Doesn't make sense? In Italy it does unfortunately.

Democracy American style is very good and precious. It's like the difference between football and soccer. In football you plan (both attack and defense) and you do or try to do... In soccer, besides the fact that you are not allowed to use the most useful part of your body (unless you're feeling sexy), some you can do, some you seize the occasion and some you wait for events to happen.

Ciao

"These people you say are crazy, ARE crazy. Unhappily crazy. Okay, I'm sorry for Custer, but then I want the Indian to apologize for Attila the Hun! "

I like that! I’m giving this to you as straight as I can.

Free Republic (FR) is many times larger than DU, big enough to contain evolving sub-communities. Some people here read little beyond what interests them, such as technology, law or whatever. Many avoid arguments, have developed warm friendships and will tell you that FR is much more tolerant than DU. It’s not always true.

To feel comfortable for long, you’ll need to have some right, conservative or right leaning libertarian opinions. IMO, it’s not the “best face” of the American right because many people are very undiplomatic. You can express a fair about of dissent on most subjects, but you’ll often be challenged and expected to give a reason behind opposing positions. Depending on how emotional the issue, you probably won’t get the last word no matter how well developed your argument. Some people here (as everywhere) won’t respond to that, and when you get enough of them together on one thread, they can become a mob.

FR has thousands of very real experts, not just ideologues, on hundreds of subjects, but it also has more than its share of agenda-driven crack-pot nut-cases (like me). It’s the nature of online forums, attracting them like magnets. If you can tolerate that, I think it’s one of the most stimulating, fascinating dynamic places you'll ever find with your clothes on.

FRegards,
Bill

Here on behalf of the warm and fuzzy Freerepublic Welcome Wagon are we?:

maybe you will ban me for being a DU disrupter?

Most likely if this keeps up:-) Read and lurk for awhile. Vanities from newbies are discouraged.

Thank you Bill,

Yes, I can tell already this is a good place. Frankly I would miss crazies if they weren't here.

In Italy we say: "Se non sono pazzi, non li vogliamo!"
(If they're not crazy, we don't want them)

I'm sorry if I am probably already making mistakes. I will learn my way. Free Republic doesn't deserve the clutter of someone upset with DU creating threads. But really, I was upset, furious and so I wanted to see how bad these freep disrupters really are, seeing as I was accused of being one. (They put a tombstone on my profile page!!!)

Now I have the measure. Now I understand.

Yet still, there is a dogmatic, TRULY undemocratic quality about them which exceeds even the wild wild wild, knitting needle in the brain leftwing of my own country.

This is what shocked me. The opinions, the Bush being called Nazi I expected, the usual merda about big corporations, fine, but to pull out the plug on a voice, IN AMERICA!!! - I would never suspect.

This is a dangerous symptom, I believe. Everyone knows that Americans are more efficient in everything. So perhaps, you must be extra careful, everybody, left, right and center, not to become too efficient in tyranny. Certainly at DU they were that way, and believe me, it was very frightening.

Thank you all for your comments. I will now explore your big site and hopefully have good fights. Maybe even teach you a few good curse words!

Is it a such a sin in America to suggest to an Indian to bury the hatchet?

Yes. That phrase is considered offensive by many Native Americans.

What you might want to suggest instead is to have powwow and smokum peace-pipe.

Ciao AmericanMade1776,

This thing called a mouse takes me to the strangest places. To Free Rep. I came with a purpose, there I really don't know... and in the General Discussion thread there was an interesting topic. "If you're proud to be an American, Why?"

I clicked and saw many, not all, hating their country. That is common in Italy... a sort of festival of cynicism. Actually we are even better in that then you, because we don't have "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" to say, and we had millions in the Piazzas cheering for a man on a balcony.

So I started writing, cheering up these unhappy people about their country. All I was saying is, fine, go ahead and hate your politicians, but America?!!

America that turned the people treated like trash by monarchies (I am very anti-aristocracy) into Mr. and Mrs. instead of just "Ehi Giuseppe, come here!" - "Ehi Maria, clean the toilet!"

America that invents toys like computers and unites the world? The 10000 musical genres? Hating America is like hating the whole world. Just like when OBL attacked NY he killed people of every race and religion.

Then I got involved in the big guilt business. I find it very Ironic that people who are all atheists think like the most Orthodox of the most Orthodox Jews and like Muslims... Tribes, clans, blood feuds, curses. My theory is that the dead should bury the dead.

I am sorry for Fascist Italy bombing Somalia, but don't blame me. Don't use it like a special handicap advantage, a weight to make the innocent feel perennially guilty. Historically we have all suffered and among us, the cleanest dog has the mange. There are no clean pulpits!

Well I don't know what got me there, but that is what got me kicked out like a dog not only with the mange, but with rabies.

Ciao

Oh, we do it here, too. It's a private-property and freedom-of-association thing.

Neither of us is obliged to give the other side a platform. DU is just more intolerant and trigger-happy than we are, which is saying a lot.

Really? Or are you making fun? I think it's beautiful. If someone can fall on a sword, why not bury a hatchet?

But one forummer there DID say that what I posted was offensive more as a matter of style than content. But that is ridiculous!
