Can someone explain to me how and why Steve Young made it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame???
Michael Irvin is so much more deserving. Irvin has three rings, Young only one. I guess drugs and hookers hurt Irvin.
But then again, Lawrence Taylor got in. Aikmann will get in, so will Smith. wasn't Irvin an intrical part???
If I had a receiver like Jerry Rice, i would be in the Hall of Fame.
I think Young was a good Quarterback, but he wasn't better than Jim Plunkett and he's not in.
Michael Irvin was hype.
Period.
He was MUCH better than Jim Plunkett.
L.C. Greenwood got skipped again. One more chance, I've heard...
Feh.
The numbers are overwhelming. Young's are better than those of practically every quarterback in the Hall of Fame. What have you got against the guy? If you think Irvin ought to be there, fine, but don't use his absence to crticize Young.
Dunno, but Phil Simms should be in the HOF.
Jimmy Johnson still says that Irvin had the best work ethic of any player he ever coached.
I don't have anything against Young. I like SY. I wish he would run for the US Senate in CA. All I am saying is what did he do to get in the Hall of Fame???
Dan Marino broke a record. He was a prolific passer. How does Young disguish himself from the average QB other than throwing to Rice.
Nine time...that's 9 times All-Pro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still not in HOF.
Just plain wrong.
As a Giants fan and Cowgirl hater, Irvin was not as good as his hype - no question about it.
He only won three Super bowl rings that's all.
Michael Irvin had 1,000-yard receiving seasons in all but one year from 1991 to '98.

Fame vs. shame
Irvin was great, but his antics and the anti-Cowboys bias could hurt him

Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin is one of 15 finalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2005.
Irvin caught 750 passes for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns in his 12-year career with the Cowboys. He was a member of three Super Bowl championship teams and was selected to five Pro Bowls.
Irvin joins Dan Marino, Derrick Thomas and Steve Young as finalists in their first year of eligibility. Irvin and former Washington Redskins Art Monk are the only two wide receivers among the finalists.
The 2005 class will be announced Feb. 5.
Here's a look at the case for and against Michael Irvin and how he compares statistically to receivers in the Hall and some who have been overlooked:
Holds NFL career records for highest completion percentage -- 64.3;
highest passer rating -- 96.8;
most seasons leading league in touchdown passes -- 4;
and most consecutive seasons leading league in passer rating -- 4 (1991-1994).
... Holds NFL record for most consecutive games with 300 or more yards passing -- 6 (September 6-October 18, 1998).
... Holds NFL single-season record for highest passer rating -- 112.8 (1994).
POST SEASON RECORDS: Holds Super Bowl single-game record for most touchdown passes -- 6 (January 29, 1995, vs. San Diego).
... Shares Super Bowl single-game record for most passes attempted without an interception -- 36 (January 29, 1995, vs. San Diego).
... Shares NFL postseason single-game record for most touchdown passes -- 6 (January 29, 1995, vs. San Diego).
I have no problem with Irvin being a HOF. I just think Young is more deserving.
Jim Plunkett was great. Michael Irvin has a lot of baggage. I think he will get in eventually. How about Art Monk? His numbers dwarf those of Irvin and a lot of other WRs already in the hall.
Would that be as a Pat or a Raider?
Both.
I can't believe Monk isn't in. The guy was the all time catch leader until Rice passed him.
