Argument over cigars nearly turns deadly in SE Houston
Police say an argument over a cigar may have nearly cost a man his life.
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(02/02/05 - HOUSTON) A customer's refusal to show an ID to buy a cigar is the presumed cause of a shooting in southeast Houston.
The incident began when a man went into the Southmore Market on Dowling and asked to buy a cigar. The man refused a request to produce an ID to buy the cigar and repeatedly said no.
"He said, 'I don't need ID. I'm old enough.' It went back and forth. He takes the cigar and throws down a couple dollars and then leaves and they tried to stop him from leaving with the cigars," said Sgt. Mark Lentini with the Houston Police Department.
Store clerks followed the man into the parking lot, but he allegedly attacked them with a crowbar. That's when a clerk's husband came out of the store with a gun and shot the customer twice in the chest. The victim is in critical condition.
Police are investigating whether charges should be filed against the husband.
Never bring a cigar to a gunfight.

Please add me to your cigar ping list. Thank you.
That's no way to keep customers.
You're already there!
Maybe I missed copying & pasting the line that your name is on. Sorry 'bout that.
I think my advice was made for situations like this.
Swisher Sweet....38 special...Swisher Sweet....38 special...yeah...gonna have to go with the .38 special on this one.
Man. I'm taking the crowbar out of my car before I drive down the hill for a cigar. That $7.00 Stogie ain't worth a ride downtown.
A fight on Dowling. Yeah, that's never happened before...
Never bring a crowbar to a gunfight.
I agree with you about your two mentions. I would turn to crime for either...
