This is a wild ride!
An evil doctor, zombies,
big monsters from Hell,
secret Fed soldiers
charged with killing the zombies
and monsters from Hell,
and all the good guys --
including Tara Reid! -- are
really good marksmen . . .
I would never say
this is a good movie, but
it is like a cross
of Indiana
Jones, Alien, and Blackhawk
Down. I do admire
the filmmakers for
tossing all these elements
into one movie!
And, though I will not
give away the film's ending,
I will say they don't
cop out like the end
of Independence Day with
a cheap plot gimmick.
It's not a good film,
but it was fun to watch, and
it has Tara Reid!

Sounds interesting. Christian Slater looks, like, my age these days. Time flies. Is Tara Reid the one with the famous breast implants?

Well, this movie BOMBED badly at the box office. Didn't even make the top 10. Most games to movies (yes, it was originally a game) sucked. Even Resident Evil (which I enjoyed) isn't that good. Fun movie, but I knew it wasn't that good of one.
With that being said, nice to see SOMEONE enjoy this movie. At least a movie like Resident Evil had SOME good reviews. This one, if you check Rotten Tomatoes, barely got ANY! 1% of all critics enjoyed it! Looks like a...ummm...wait for television event?

a young genius anthropologist with an incredible memory (and his ex-girlfriend), Aline Cedrac (Tara Reid !) I'm reminded of Denise Richards attempting to portray a nuclear physicist in the Bond movie a few years back. I'm prepared to suspend a lot of disbelief for a 007 film, but there is a limit.

House of the Dead (also a game to movie) did pretty bad in the box office too. Also from Uwe Bolls. From what I gather, it was meant to be a B-horrorish movie, but still, even then, it bombed. He acknowledged it, and moved on with, Alone in the Dark. Supposedly he learned from his mistakes from House of the Dead when he made Alone in the Dark (though this isn't exactly the environment to be, oh I don't know, learning as you go...).
Well, the director, Uwe Bolls, will try again. With another game to movie, BloodRrayne. And after that movie, he has another in the works, Hunter: The Reckoning, and Far Cry. Betcha those are going to bomb too. I mean, being a HUGE fan of games, it does sort of tickles me that so many are being turned to movies. But if all these movies are directed by Uwe Bolls (while I like his enthusiasm), the genre of games to movies is going no where.
So far, the only successful games to movie, Mortal Kombat 1, Tomb Raider 1, and Resident Evil series. Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil were both directed by Paul Anderson which, while not a great director, at least has a better track record for this genre then Uwe Bolls at the moment. Tomb Raider, Angelina Jolie. And I have to admit, the movie itself isn't bad. Still, if it wasn't for Angelina Jolie, it probably would've never went anywhere.
Some of the upcoming games to movies that I'm more excited about, Silent Hill, NOT directed by Uwe Bolls, and instead, is being worked on by the creator of the Silent Hill series (as well as a number of big names in the movie industry. Well, people who actually had a successful run of movies as opposed to...well, again, Uwe Bolls)! And...well, that's about it. Well, okay, Resident Evil 3 since, like I said, while the games to movie genre has been filled with stinkers, at least Paul Anderson has made a semi-enjoyable one in the genre. Maybe Spyhunter if they make that as a fun action movie. There are even rumors of a Metal Gear Solid movie written by David Hayter (voice of Solid Snake, AND writer of such films like X-Men and X-Men 2) and given his track record, well, at least the stories are good. But still, these are only rumors. While it is cool seeing all these games to movies, the outlook for the genre does looks pretty bleak at the moment.
And speaking of upcoming game to movie stinkers, Doom the movie. It doesn't even SOUND like Doom. No Mars, no demons from Hell, just, well, zombies infected by a virus. Which oddly enough, sounds like...RESIDENT EVIL! If you are going to make a Doom movie, make it a DOOM movie!
