*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hey, I just found this thread. I was an avid horsewoman in the 60's and 70's. I showed 5-gaited, 3-gaited and English Pleasure. I did a little Equitation but I was never a good rider. The horse was always better. Hope to take the time to get to know everyone on this thread.
Here's our The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who page, if you didn't click it already :~D
Do you ride now?
I'm really excited!!
I'm hoping I get to ride my horse before I leave. I'm going to bring a picture Bojangles just so he'll be "by my side" :0)
Ain't he a darling?
He sure is! If you're going to ride though before you leave, you've only got a few hours! :~D
Hey, that's good news. I'm really getting excited for May to be here.
Have you by any chance noticed the flocks of blackbirds around this year??? I"VE Seen big flocks of them before in the past, but this year....wow!! there's millions of them, and they've been around now for several weeks. I can't think of anything but that Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds:). I cover my eyes every time I go out.
Becky
He's a spunky little thing. Which is just how I like my horses.
I remember that film and still hate anything flying around my head. It scared the bejees out of me!
LOL! Are you excited about your trip?
Bay's that way too... It's an Arab thing. I sometimes think they blow and snort and prance off just because they know they look good doing it.
Welcome to the thread.
Becky
~exasperated~
Rusty isn't eating again.
What is it with that horse....
Becky
LOL...I was telling my son this morning about that movie, while we were talking about the flocks around this year.
I told him when I first saw it I was very young and it scared me too...I remember my brother telling me to "don't look, don't look, their eyes are pecked out:)"
Mack and I watched it about a year ago....it is sooooo corny now..LOL. I can't believe it scared me ever.
Becky
I generally figure an average of 342 days from last day bred on new mares but keep a close eye on them, some go as early as 330 and the mare that just foaled generally goes 324. The mare that's due went 345 last time she foaled.
I've thought that too Hair, about the whole Arab thing. And they do look gorgeous doing that!
It's certainly not just because they're afraid, or they wouldn't make such an artistic statement about it. ;~D
I don't know what it is about him.
Anything new? Any ideas at all?
No absolutely no reason, nothing has changed.
He was wormed one day last week.
He is standing out there head hanging very low...doesn't look good.
Becky
Wormer might make them colicky in the day immediately after... but not after days.... (?)
Is your weather turned bad or changed? any new plant suddenly sprouting up in the paddock because it's spring?
Are you thinking of calling the vet?
Our weather has changed some, it's a rainy dreary day.
He was out in the pasture yesterday, but so was Harley and Rocky. I can't imagine there being enough of anything out there to hurt him. Nothing much has grown. In fact, I'm only letting them out there a little bit each day, so it may have a chance to grow.
I'm not at the point of calling the vet yet. I just saw him walk over and take a drink. He's wandering around his run some...
Becky
OK - we'll I'll pray that he's got his appetite back by tonight.
FWIW, I'm off my feed too, but in my case some of that is a really good thing. I only had one meal yesterday, late, and I haven't eaten today yet. Hungry now that I've thought of it though.
