My Keys
If I knew now, what I knew then,
How simple life would be.
At sixteen I knew everything,
So much was clear to me.
I knew my parents knew nothing,
They really were a drag.
I had a handle on it all,
The world was in my bag.
As I got older clouds appeared,
The world became less clear.
It seems a little bit is lost,
With each successive year.
Im over fifty now and yes,
It seems that time just flees.
I really dont know anything,
Like where I left my keys.

Embarrassed
I locked my keys inside my car,
No need to wonder where they are.
I plainly see them sitting there,
The rolled-up glass is clear as air.
I pat my pockets in the hope,
Im really not this big a dope.
But they are empty, as I knew,
And this confirms something thats true.
If there were some way I could lock it,
Id end up barred from my own pocket.
I know that given half a chance,
Id lock myself outside my pants.
Id zip them up, secure the clasp,
And only then Id surely gasp,
To realize, of all the gentry,
My pants alone deny my entry.
Im sure the cop would soon come round,
As word would spread across the town,
My wifes phone number? You can call it,
Its written there inside my wallet.
It seemed salvation was at hand,
I stood at the door of my laundry man.
It was at this point I got extra nervous,
I saw the sign, no shirt, no shoes, no service.

A Vase Full Of Good Intentions
Read: James 4:13-17
To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17
Bible In One Year: Exodus 11-13
In a Peanuts cartoon by Charles Schulz, Marcie gives her schoolteacher some flowers. Not to be outdone, Peppermint Patty says to the teacher, "I thought about doing the same thing, Ma'am, but I never got around to it. Could you use a vase full of good intentions?"
We've all had intentions of doing something good but then failed to follow through. We may want to make a phone call to check up on a friend, or visit a sick neighbor, or write a note of encouragement to a loved one. But we don't take the time.
Some people know that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, and they plan to trust in Him someday. Yet they keep putting it off. They may have good intentions, but that won't bring salvation.
As Christians, we may say that we want to grow closer to the Lord, but somehow we don't make the time to read the Word of God or to pray.
James has some strong words about our problem of not taking action: "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin" (4:17).
Is there something you've been putting off? Write that card or letter today. Visit that sick friend. A vase full of good intentions never brightened anyone's day. Anne Cetas
"I do intend to do Your will"
Is what we often tell the Lord,
But what will honor Him the most
Are deeds of love to back our word. D. De Haan
Good intentions are no good until they are put into action.
