Use Netscape and turn on pop-up blocking. Works like a champ for me.

Get the browser Mozilla Firefox, it has a built-in popup blocker that does better than 3rd party blockers.

Do a google search for:
Ad-aware (free)
Spybot (free)
Go to Microsoft.com and download their free anti-spyware (beta) - the link is on their homepage

Before I discovered Firefox browser, I used the Google Toolbar. Blocks popups very well and I had Google search right at my fingertips as an added bonus.

Two words: Firefox and Ad-Aware.
Go to: http://www.lavasoft.de/
and download the free Ad-Aware Spyware/Popup blocker. It is absolutely 100%. The newest updates have reduced (combined with Firefox Browser) pop-ups and spyware/malware worms on my PC to ZERO.
Read that again. Two months ago my computer was going mad and pop-ups were running my Internet. Now, they have been liquidated.

Thanks everyone i'm going to try firefox as well as install the microsoft spyware killer.

Also look at The Proxomitron proxy server, works well out of the box. It's orphaned, but Google for it.
And load up your HOSTS file with all the bad sites. Google for HOSTS Windows or some such. There are lots of URLs with HOSTS prepopulated. Makes drudge tolerable.
Spybot S&D and Adaware work as well as Norton. Take a look at AVG, and it's free to boot.

Try GuardIE, for Internet Explorer! It's free!
