Are you running a firewall as well? Zonealarm maybe?

Same here. One PC updated OK last night but today this one just times out. I believe their servers are overloaded.

I have been having the same problem for a week or so myself. I do use Zonealarm, but it never caused problems before.

BTW you can manually download the update as a ".bin" file but not a hit of what to do with it after download(!)

IIRC there was also a conflict between AVG & Roxio's CD burning software (if you're running that).

This happens to me a lot. On one PC it was because the URL got moved into the blocked category of my firewall. Easy fix.

On the other...it just hangs untill it fails. I try again the next day and it works fine. I think their server is a little buggy these days.

What I do sometimes is to run the update manually. If you need to do this it's easy. In your options, set the program to ask for the source of the update. Then with the Control Center open, click on the hyperlink on the left side panel that takes you to the AVG homepage. When you get there, look for a link on the left that says, "I need help". Click it and scroll down for a link to the latest updates. Download them and then run the Update manager. When asked for the source, browse to where you saved the files you downloaded. After the update completes, delete the downloaded files.

Good Lord my age is showing. When I read the title to this post, my mind connected AVG with American Volunteer Group a.k.a. the "Flying Tigers"
What a Hoot.

I had some problems with AVG for a few days and it was telling me to update. Then I went to the icon, right- clicked and found out that somehow the date and time were wrong (for instance, the date said January 31, 2000!). When I straightened that out, it brought itself up to date and I haven't had any more problems with it. One clue is that during the time it was telling me I needed to update, the little icon on my pop-up start menu was black and white, and then when I fixed the time/date problem the usual AVG colors were back on the icon.

I have AVG (free edition) and have had the same problem -- says "internet connection failed".....I uninstalled the program and tried to update again....the same thing...then I rebooted and it UPDATED! Then again today it didn't update in the morning but DID update in the afternoon....I don't know what's going on....like someone else on this thread said, perhaps it is just an overloaded server at the AVG website....at any rate, know that you are not alone...
