Has anyone noticed the latest Your-too-stupid-to-take-care-of-yourself-so-we'll-do-it-for-you law?
I have a very bad cold. Also the family that I work with have bad colds too. I went to Rite Aid after work to pick up some OTC cold and flu medications for myself and them.
When I got to the counter to pay for them I was told by the clerk that they are only allowed to sell 2 medications at a time containing pseudoephedrine. I had 4 boxes, 2 for me and 2 for the family I work with. So I had to go to a different drug store to pick up the other 2 boxes.
What a stupid law. It doesn't do anything but inconvienance people, not to mention hurt sales. I know Rite Aide frequently has Buy one get one free OTC medication sales, but it's not worth it with the new law. If you need say an allergy medication and a flu medication that's all you can buy at that store, you'll have to get in your car and go to another store. UGGHHHhhh
Sorry for the rant. I don't feel very good at the moment and this stupid nanny law made me waste my time.

Actually - its not a "you're too stupid" law.
Its a "stop the meth labs" law. Thats a main ingredient in methamphetamine.

It's not a stupid law, are you the only one who can walk up to the counter to buy medicine in your family ?

I think that is an effort to curb "Crank/Meth" production, as that is the main component.

Yes I have noticed. At my local safeway I can still buy sudafed over the counter, but at other safeways in other areas, I have to pick up a slip and take it tot he checkout counter, then the checker has to go into a locked cabinet to get the sudafed.
WHAT A STUPID WAY TO DO THINGS!!!!!
It made me look like I was some sort of a drug dealer!!!
I got loud. People were waiting behind us in line while the cashier could not find the type of sudafed I wanted. I told the whole store about it.
Now, One of the socialist ladies from Kalifornia is sponsoring more legislation that will control over the counter cold meds with computer accounting of who buys them and all sorts of crap.
At Wal-Mart, you have to go to the pharmacy and ask for sudafed. if the pharmacy is closed, guess what??? You can't buy any....
Please save me from the socialists that want to save me from myself!!!!!!!!

The other alternative is to make them a prescription drug. Take it easy, it stops the psycho meth freaks from wreaking more havoc on innocent people.

"It's a stop the methlabs law"
How will this law stop them? All they have to do is go to a different drug store to get more. Or, I imagine Price Club probablly sells some humongous bottle of it. It's not going to do anything to stop the meth labs.

Don't you think this is liberal thinking?
I know meth causes big problems, but how is limiting how much pseudo ephedrine people can buy, going to help?
Don't you think they will just drive to different drug stores until they get enough?
Why do I have to be inconvenienced because some people use it to make meth?
Some people sniff paint and cleaning products to get high.
Do we limit how much a person can buy of those?
Some people drink and drive and kill people.
Should we limit how much alcohol a person can buy at one time because of it?
Or should we have to tell Big Brother government our plans if we want to buy a larger-than-the-state-determined amount?
Where does this stop? I can understand that they want to do something about the Meth problem, but this just seems ineffective.

You know how long your life span is if you sniff paint and gasoline ? About 6 months longer than injecting meth into your viens.

Welcome to the real world, a few people always mess it up for the rest of us. Like I said, they could make them available only by script. Comeon, two bottles is enough to last a week.

"two bottles is enough to last a week"
Actually it was 2 boxes of Thera Flu , Daytime and Nightime formulas. While 2 boxes is more than enough, (the other 2 were for the family who I work with-Home Health care, they don't have a car) it's still the thinking about this law that's annoying/scary. How many other situations are they going to apply these types of restrictions?

Sounds like you are young, stuff like this has been going on for 30 years. In time, you get immune to it. Though it does accelerate like a snow ball rolling down a hill.

I agree with you there. I realize this is a minor item in the big picture. I'm just ranting about it because I don't feel good and can't sleep ;-)
I know there isn't much that can be done , not trying to argue really.

I agree. There has to be a middle ground, I remember seeing people buying /hundreds/ of packages of sudafed at the Wal-Mart. they looked like they had more problems that a head cold.
