Hi there, I just wanted to take a minute to congratulate you on your investigation of me. Unfortunately you all are so way off! I've really never been to the site before and it was hillarious watching the thread this morning as all of you used your vivid imaginations, web search skills, and paranoia to create this whole background for me. I really was visiting the site for the first time yesterday, and apparently by choosing this name I opened up a whole pluthera of fears from regular users of the site. I posted my message and got a few "welcome" messages, and then someone decided to try and dissect my identity. I went from being a BBS Sysop, to an online marketing / spam firm, to someone belonging to "DU" (I'm not sure what that is) and then I was some enemy to the site or something. I was really having fun all the way up to the point where my customer came to my house to pick up the laptop I had been working on for him....I'm sure you already know the model # since that seems to be what started this whole thing.....HP ZD-7811CL .....this is a laptop computer sold by Hewlett Packard with a huge screen and multimedia enhancements. The gentleman I repaired it for is a guitar / music instructor for teens here in the Los Angeles area. I really would have liked to reply but I was indisposed with my customer and was unable to come back until this morning when I discovered my posting priveledges had been revoked. It really is quite humorous and I'm not upset, but I would like my account back since I'm not really the troll you all thought I was. I was especially moved when someone made the point that I had only been there a day and was already using FRmail or whatever it is you called it and the taglines. It kinda made me think that you guys expected complete morons to register with FreeRepublic. How difficult is it anyway, when you post to see the little text box for the tagline and put it to use? And, Every post has little links to send private replies etc. So why not send a private reply? Just because I'm new? The site really isnt very complicated, and if I figured out all of that on my first post, why wouldnt any other half intelligent person? That coimment just strruck me as odd. I did however spend over an hour reading posts before I even registered, allowing me to read alot of taglines and their witty messages, and thinking about what I would put in there ahead of time. The paranoia spread like a disease, and it really was truly funny to see how important my post became for just being some schmuck that stumbled on to the site while doing a search for a service manual. Again, I'm not upset about it but I would like to have my account back and I would like everyone to kinow that I am not the bad person they assumed I was. I posted to the site with good intention of expressing my feelings about the site. Someone disputed my fathers length of service in the Air Force, so when he called me this morning I asked him about it. Yes I was incorrect, he was only in the service for 33 years and then explained to me that there was no limit of how many years you serve but that you would retire at 65 anyway. He also told me that he had reached rank as far up as he could without someone else stepping down and was only keeping others from reaching his rank so they offered him retirement. I think I got that right. Anyway, I'm sorry to spoil your fun, but you have captured no terrorist to the FR community. Quite the contrary, I liked the site which is why I posted to begin with. As for the name I chose....it was just a name I always thought was funny from the movie Buckaroo Banzai. I have never been affilliated with any of the people I have been accused of being, but thanks for the laugh. Could you let everyone else know at least what I have said ....it doesnt matter if you choose to believe me or not but I do feel as a new user I deserve the benefit of the doubt. If everyone who comes to FR is suspected of being whatever it is you guys are afraid of, then the site will never grow bigger than it is right now. I'm not sure if that matters or not but I honestly am just a guy...a father, and husband. My daughter is 4 years old, and I work for the federal government migrating new communications for the F.A.A. I drive a modest car and own several modest computers and have been online since well before the internet. Anyone with the computer background I have should have no problems figuring out how FR's forums work, or how to type text in a box and click on private reply links. I have written the webmaster of the site in an attempt to get my account active again. I would like to be able to respond but the lynch mob got me before I had a chance to do so. lol. Honestly...I'm no threat to any of you. Just a guy that loves his country, his president, and appreciates what the men and women of the armed forces have given up so that my family can live safely in a free country.
Patrick Smith
P.S. if youd like, I'll give you my fathers phone number and you can ask him all about his time served in the 445th aero squadron at Norton Air Force Base in California...i think it was like MAS something or other but you can ask him if youd really like to. I'm proud of my old man and all the medals etc he has received.

He's either the troll that got banned yesterday or the victim of some overeager crusaders. Frankly, I didn't see a single example of troll-like behavior.

All this guy had to do was re-sign up with a different name and change his attitude instead of ranting. If he had been lurking on Free Republic before he started a post he would have known how to act on this forum and not get banned.

He would sound pretty harmless to me. EXCEPT that his spelling gives him away as an avid DU-er. His pluthera of coimments is enough for me.
To: atomicpossum
I just looked through my most recent posts which reminded me of how right you are--I was surprised that he got banned. I read through all of his comments yesterday and I didn't see anything odd. I think he got yanked because of his IP addy or something. What I find really creepy is that he contacted me (I do not know who else). I never posted a single comment to him. I din't even post a comment about him--IIRC, my comments were regarding Buckaroo Banzai.

I'm almost completely computer-illiterate. Can't admin somehow verify that a poster has been previously banned from their IP address?

I say give the guy a another chance. Seems just a little hyper and irritated, but not all that trollish. If he gets that way, then we can twice-bake a troll, eh?
Perhaps he's just going in a million directions at once?

EXCEPT that his spelling gives him away as an avid DU-er.That and when he specifically states "DU" (I'm not sure what that is) .
It's a dead give away.
His thought process is all over the board too.
It's easy to spot a DUmmy.

Was he a troll or are some of us watching too many episodes of CSI?
I'd appreciate some facts on why he was banned.

Not my FReepmail--my personal email account, which is what got me into a bit of a tizzy. If he had just contacted people randomly on the forum, well, that's one thing. I've got to look through my profile and see how he snagged my personal email addy. Creepy.
