One of the things they failed to notice in pushing their statistics about how completely dependent, by percentage, that California is on Mexicans in all these professions that are suffering, they completely invalidate the idea that they only take the jobs that Americans won't do.
We had a roofing contractor out at our home a couple of weeks ago, doing some repairs. I wasn' home, and my hubby got here before they left. He said there were two men, both appeared to be Mexican. One of them spoke to him in very good English, but spoke Spanish to his co-worker. That always makes me kinda nervous - I'm wondering if one or both of them is here illegally. The contractor is, I think, Australian. He and his father own the business. I certainly have no control over who they hire - I supposed I could ask, but I didn't think about it. I really rather would not employ illegals, but if you hire a contractor, you can't always know who works for them.
That just makes me sick and is reverse discrimination. One of the most vile racists, Ernesto Portillo, writes for the Red Star (our paper). He is always mentioning that movie and how noble the illegals are. I also don't think it's fair to the legal Americans of Mexican origin - because so many of them are not happy with the illegal situation either. More than 40% (I am thinking 47%) voted Yes on Prop 200. Despite all the campaigning by the state, the media, etc. against it.
