hmmmmm ... from that article:
About 9 percent of French men and 11 percent of French women can be considered obese, compared with 19.5 percent of American men and 25 percent of American women.

I wonder if the statistics are arrived at by using the same standards of what constitutes "obesity" in both France and America -- and I wonder how thoroughly the data is gathered and whether or not the researchers in either place have opposing agendas. I think I heard recently that America's obesity stats are way off - way overstated. We can guess why.
