I really wish we had a better selection of attorneys here for for family/juvenile court. We generally have the same basic collection for nearly every hearing. Most of the parent counsel is pretty ineffective, which makes my job easier, but sometimes it would be nice to actually see them have to work for their clients.
I agree with you though. I see some terrible things and I have a rough time retaining professional composure with some of these people. Generally, the sexual abuse cases, particularly the ones involving very young children, and the custody cases, are the ugliest, although for obviously different reasons.
Sometimes it is. A big problem here, though, is not having anyplace to put them while we're having to play games with some of these terminally worthless parents. We have some wonderful foster homes, but we don't have enough, so consequently, our foster parents are constantly overburdened and a lot of them get burnt out. Then we AND the foster parents get in trouble for "going against policy" in the homes being overloaded or not going perfectly by the book, so there's that added stress on everybody. So then, we find ourselves in situations where we end up leaving children in deplorable situations because we don't have anything to do with them, and then we get in trouble for that. It isn't that there aren't more people willing to be foster parents; it's that when they apply, they don't get trained and approved in a timely manner, and most give up or their paperwork gets lost on the desk of some bureaucrat in Little Rock.
You just get tired and then you start to find yourself going with the flow- which means that you don't fight as hard, or put as much effort as you should. I did it and had to stop for my own good. I got too damned depressed and that was not fair to me or my family.
Now, if I get into a fight it is my own choosing and is usually in the local political arena- we have many RINOs here and they make me angry. They are more liberal than the Dems at times.
I took a call from the hospital this past week about a one year old who was in the ER for the second time in a month or 2 for ingesting something...once it was some kind of bath salts and this time it was prescription drugs. His 2 year old sister had also been in the ER for something similar on more than one occasion. Mom blamed it on the babysitter, a woman who lived with them....then left the older child with this same woman while she went to hospital to try and get the baby. This family was known and the kids ended up in foster care...2 counties away, because it was the closest available placement for them.
That wind is brutal out there today. It could blow the birds out the trees!
All I can do is shake my head at the stupidity of these people who knowling put their children in danger.
