"Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

My old cat, Maia, is going to the vet this afternoon. She is deteriorating rather quickly. She has chronic feline renal insufficiency, and wasn't doing well at all this morning. I don't know if she's near the end, or if she can be helped today and stay with us a little longer, but at any rate, she's been a good little friend and I don't want her to suffer.

But why did he squeal like a large rat before running off?

Because he knew what would happen to him if he was mistaken for a cuy.

They eat the heck out of them in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and northern Chile. In Peru, you can order Cuy in any restaurant; even the fancy ones in Lima will have Cuy on the menu.

awww... that's a good one, loddy.... as long as we exclude chimps from the list of "animals."

LOL!!
I've actually munched on the little guys...to me they are pretty gamey, although they primarily eat alfalfa. In Peru you can often see burros loaded with alfafa that is off to the market for cuy food.
Most of the little shacky houses in the country side have a small enclosure in the house that is filled with these little guys. Cuy is a major source of protein for the campasinos.

Do they taste like pork? Is that why they are called guinea "pigs"?
What is a safe cuyless item on the menu?

Would they be interested in learning about chicken, or rabbit, or anything that doesn't look like a huge water-rat?

Come'on Chileans, you CAN do better.
