Good morning. This is a Public Service Announcment more than anything - I had a health scare this week (I'm fine, btw). I'd gone for a dermatology check, and the doc excised a couple of suspicious looking moles. About a week and a half later, there's a message on the answering machine that my biopsy had been sent for a 2nd opinion. That's it. Yikes! Of course, I'm thinking MELANOMA, and called the doc's office the next day. The reception said that a nurse would call me back, - no call. I called again, nurse still not available. So I'm sweating it for 2 days, thinking I have cancer. Finally, yesterday afternoon, I get a call back - they'd gotten the results of the 2nd opinion back and while there were changes in the cells, it was a benign condition, and the biopsy had gotten all the affected tissue. It's one of those things that needed to be removed, as it could have eventually become cancerous.

I did a little on-line research regarding skin cancer, and found the melanoma is a big killer of young women. While I'm no longer in the 'young' category (and not old, either), I hadn't worried too much about. Melanoma is eminently treatable and curable IF YOU CATCH IT EARLY.

So I would recommend that YOU PEOPLE (blast from the past) get yourselves to a doc for a skin cancer screening if you haven't already, particularly if you are fair skinned and have spend a lot of time in the sun.

That is scary, Cheri. I just hate the way they make people wait on results, when they have to know you're gnawing your fingers with concern about it. Thank God it was okay.

Recently while going through an airport during one of his many trips,
President Bush encountered a man with long hair, wearing a white robe,
and sandals, holding a staff.

President Bush went up to the man and said, "Aren't you Moses?" The
man never answered but just kept staring straight ahead. Again the
President said, "Moses!" in a loud voice. The man just kept staring ahead,
never answering the President. Bush pulled a Secret Service agent aside
and pointing to the robed man asked him, "Doesn't that man look like Moses
to you?"

The Secret Service agent agreed.

"Well," said the President, "Every time I say his name he just keeps
staring straight ahead and refuses to speak. Watch!" Again the
President yelled, "Moses!" and again the man stared ahead and didn't answer.

The Secret Service agent went up to the man in the white robe and
whispered, "You look just like Moses. Are you Moses?" The man leaned
over and whispered back .

"Yes, I am Moses. However, the last time I talked to a bush I spent
40 years wandering in the desert, and ended up leading my people to the
only spot in the entire Middle East where there is no oil."
