I feel very sorry for this mom. We do have some that aren't useless. This one is a sweet girl who really does try to deal with her problems. Sometimes she is more effective than other times. She is poorly educated and not very high functioning. She is actually married to the father of all 3 of the children. We don't see that too often. But it was an abusive relationship and the dad is incarcerated on drug charges, due to get out in a couple of months. She has 2 siblings, one incarcerated and one in the state hospital (severe autism), and her children really are a handful. I tried to impress on her today that she simply has to get control of these children and stressed how potentially dangerous the 2 year old's nonresponsiveness is. That, and he will go with anybody. Twice we had to stop him from trying to get in a stranger's car in front of the courthouse.

The weather here is nuts. Less than an hour ago, it felt like spring outside. Now the wind is blowing and it's getting cold. Grrrrrr....

Aha, worked just fine. You notice I took them out of the public eye. Actually, when my two were small, nobody made any big deal about spankings then. Now my daughter, she said that if she took her two to the mall and one of them threw a fit, she'd have to tell them, "When we get home you go straight to your room and wait for me". Then when they got home, they went into their room, she got her wooden spoon, and the offender got their butt tanned. She was always afraid to swat them in the mall. someone would probably report you now. But I doubt that it is any different in the US of A either.

Thank you again. It came through just fine this time. I sent it on to my sister and BIL in Mexico. They were thoroughly cheezed off that they couldn't buy their DHEA. Now I think I know why.

It's nuts everywhere Libby. As to your girl, the thing about these types of girls is that they are generally followers themelves. They have a hard time "sticking to being consistent". Without consistency, the children seem to know that they can break down their mother's resistence. These kind of mothers need someone like you to be watching over them all the time. Tough situation.

Hi Lynn......no, we got rain. Bummer. We were X country skiing every day with that big snow a few weeks back, but it's mostly gone now with another day of rain to go. Double bummer.
Your daughter sounds like a smart cookie; good grief we would get hounded by the PC unspankers for what we did. PCLiberalism is so destructive in what they have undone.

Most of these situations are tough or we wouldn't be involved. Some are worse than others. Some will have protective services involved in their lives for as long as they have kids. It seems normal to them. For some, it is second generation.

I have never seen so many bands in an aurora. Great color too. Jaw-dropping. The light in the bottom right is from an approaching car. It is also unusual to see an aurora mixed so nicely with a low layer of clouds. Picture taken Saturday February 5, 2005 at Fairbanks, AK [Check Local Weather]

"PCLiberalism is so destructive in what they have undone." Well, when it comes to disciplining children, I got to go with "we ought to obey God rather than man." I don't believe children should ever be truly injured, but a few sharp, smarting lashes on the behind is a great educator and respect builder. It shouldn't be the first and only, or even primary, form of discipline, but it most definitely belongs in the parental arsenal. Not all children need to be spanked, and with some, it is a waste of time. With those, other methods may be more effective, but with some, a good butt whupping is the only thing that will get their attention.

This is from the spectacular aurora last night. One of my favorite views is the sight of an aurora shining through the trees as it "rises up" to the sky. Bright waves like these are thrilling and uncommon. The reddish glow is from lighting to the south.
A great view over Fairbanks last night.
