Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties. The first man had married a woman from Connecticut, and bragged that he had told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and house cleaning that needed to be done at their house. He said that it took a couple days but on the third day he came home to a clean house and the dishes were all washed and put away.
The second man had married a woman from Iowa. He bragged that he had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. He told them that the first day he didn't see any results, but the next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean, the dishes were done, and he had a huge dinner on the table.
The third man had married a Boston girl. He boasted that he told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, and lawn mowed. The first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye. Enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, and telephone a landscaper.
Got to love those girls from Boston!

NEW DELHI, India -- A stampede of religious pilgrims heading to a Hindu shrine, has killed at least 150 people in western India, according to officials.
About 200,000 Hindu worshippers had gathered Tuesday afternoon along the narrow road leading up to the Mandhara Devi shrine when a small fire sparked by an electrical short circuit apparently caused a panic, triggering the stampede, officials said.
"Most of those who died were women and small children," said police officer P.Sabale.
The shrine to the Hindu goddess is located on a hill above the town of Wai, about 150 miles southeast of Mumbai (formerly Bombay).
Hindus congregate every year at the hilltop temple of the Hindu goddess Mandra Devi on a full moon night, which falls on Tuesday this year. The devotees had started arriving in the area Monday.
Stampedes occur frequently at Hindu religious festivals, which are attended by huge numbers of worshippers.
In August 2004, at least 39 Hindus were killed when pilgrims stampeded on the banks of a holy river in Nasik, a town 175 kilometers (110 miles) northeast of Mumbai.
In the worst-ever accident, about 800 pilgrims died in 1954 at a Hindu festival in the northern city of Allahabad.
Many people don't realize they have a blind spot. (2) Actually they have two of them, one in each eye. The point at the back of the eyeball where the optic nerve bundle enters is deficient in light receptors, both rods and cones, and therefore is a blind spot surrounded by the retina. It is displaced about 3mm from the optic axis. You can convince yourself of this by looking at the following picture with one eye covered.

Fig. 3. Test for the blind spot.
Cover your right eye and look directly at the X with your left eye. Move closer or farther from the page until the O disappears. What has happened is that the image of the O falls directly on the blind spot. This indicates that the image of the O must be on the nasal side of the retina of your left eye. If this is so, and your body is reasonably symmetric, you should be able to find the blind spot in your right eye. Look at the O with your right eye, covering your left eye. Move until the X disappears.
Using the reduced eye model, the angle between the O and X at which one disappears should be about = 3mm/16mm = 0.19 radian. Do your experiments with Fig. 2 confirm this?
Notice how complete the disappearance is, even though the O and X are quite large. Estimate the angular diameter of the blind spot.
This exercise may be done with a ruler held horizontally. Look at one of the numbers marking inches, and see which other number disappears.
Question 1: The blind spots can never coincide in two-eyed vision. That is, a small object you are looking at can never simultaneously produce an image on the blind spot of both eyes. Explain.
THAT is a pretty big blind spot.
Humans also don't see what they think they see.
The human brain pieces the information together to form a complete image, even though the image that you really are seeing is somewhat scant of info.
There was an article about that a few years back in Sci American.
That's funny - thankski.
I know.. I've been offline...
:(

Did you get your C tea and me?
Thank goodness my faith calls for no stupid pilgrimages - anywhere.
The entire Martime Provinces are buried also Gran. They are breaking all records. Brrrrrutal!! We are back to sun and mild conditions in B.C.
Yes it takes a very polluted mind to design a dress like that for "our" teenagers. Notice as a businessman he makes no judgment but as to his own daughter, NO he would have her wearing that dress. A little double speak there???
I got it to work without it being centered.
'Course, I've had dozens of annoying eye tests done over the years.
And this is one I've had done before.
*grrr*
Another one has this annoying circular grid in front of you.
You're supposed to sit with one eye closed and tell the eye doccer when you can see the little white ball on a stick as he moves it from the ouer rings towards the center.
Forget exactly what that particular test shows.
