Fascinating. I have a DU membership for trolling too. I love messing with their little minds.

50 minutes after posting this, you're still alive and kicking. I haven't read any of the comments yet, but I believe I can safely assume that you have been playing nice. Kudos and welcome! Now I can get right down to the series questions:

What do you feel is drawing you to a more conservative way of thinking, besides the social security dilemma?

Why is the "party of tolerance" completely intolerant of pro-lifers?

Did you see last week's episode of Law and Order? Can you believe that cr@p??!

Have you or your sister ever been bitten by a moose?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Welcome to FR and you'll feel SO much better, now that you've left THE DARK SIDE. :-)

There are several places that'll give you all the info you need, which I'm sure others have already sent you to. Be sure to read FR's archives,though...especially Alamo Girl's files. Afterward, you'll wonder just HOW on earth you ever were a Dem And poster to FR. :-)

Pleased to meet you Sean.

I was a member of an official DNC message board a few years ago. I let it be known that I was a GOP guy and that I was Conservative. I was relatively well received there but it got to be a bit much as there was no way to reach ANY sort of compromise on even the most moderate issue. So after a long time, I just left.

Now I will try to explain some of the questions you had and give you some advice I consider helpful.

The two sub groups that you listed are just forums that have specific interests.

I like your sentance about being a neocon but neocons are a distinct sub group that are not really Conservative at all. Paleocons are Conservatives stuck in the early twentieth century.

I have had hard leftists tell me that they know I am a Conservative but they have to warn me about the Neocon "threat". I tell them that there is nothing Neo about me and IMHO, every American of every political persuasion should oppose murdering psychos.

As for other posters, remember there are a lot of people here and some can be a little harsh but I think some of the flame wars I have had are much worse then anything you will see here. It's quite entertaining to see Right-Wingers wage intellectual war.

Welocme to the club.

Arioch7 out!

You sound like someone who thinks; so, of course, you were doomed over at DU.

Liberalism is about feelings. How many times did you read posts there that started with the words "I feel...". Liberals are often motivated by what they feel is "unfair". It's "unfair" that person X should be paid more than person Y. Or it's "unfair" that country A should be more powerful than country B. However, the gage of what's fair or unfair is completely subjective. What liberals fail to realize is that the politicians who pander to their notions of fairness don't care a bit about what's fair. They mouth the words that will put them in power. Once there, being the arbiters of "fairness" gives them the whip hand. It's about power.

Conservatives, generally speaking, want to be left alone. Letting government say what is or isn't "fair" gives the politicians too much power. We usually prefer to let things work themselves out. (Those of us in the libertarian corner are more consistent in that line of thinking.) Conservatism/libertarianism thus requires us to quash feelings of unfairness and think instead about the consequences of governmental attempts to remedy inequities.

it's perfectly fine to switch to conservative. as you get older and get over your blood lust for a lawless drug filled life style AND you start getting pissed off over the taxes you pay you always end up on the right. if either of those two options don't happen you stay on the left.
odd, i didn't see you behind me on my walk to the right.

welcome to your new home. oh, and watch your step, the kittens are a little trigger happy.{grin}

You better be for real. One thing for certain you'll see more intelligent and less vile discussion here, even if you are a troll.

Speaking as a relative newcomer to FR, the oldies aren't always nice, but you can learn a lot.

Best wishes.

This is a ping. If you want to draw the attention of a particular FReeper to a specific thread, just put their screen name up in the "To" section when you are posting a reply. The ping will then show up in that FReepers "New Posts to You." VOILA!

There are ping lists available for pro-lifers, dog lovers, horse lovers, Viking Kitties, zot squad, GenXers, Catholics, DU threads, South Park fans, families, pro-2A, you name it. Hope that helps and welcome to FR!

BTW--I pinged you to this thread because it seems to be trickling out, I'm not trying to be threatening!

Welcome to FR. You're now a FREEPER. Since you've come here from DU to troll...you know how nasty freepers are to Newbies....I'm sure you're tough skinned.

You've seen the LIGHT...it's hard not too if you love America...you know the rat party has been hijacked by the commie's. So a true American Patriot really has NO choice but to change sides.

Again WELCOME to FR.
