SURVIVOR: PALAU

premiering Thursday, February 17 at 8 pm ET/PT.

Greetings Survivor FReeks!

Its time once again for a new season of Survivor!

“Twenty Americans are stranded in Palau, the South Pacific paradise some call the 8th natural wonder of the world, where colorful wildlife, dense jungles and an underwater world beyond belief are haunted by the wreckage and remnants of World War II.
From the beginning, the game will be changed in a dramatic way: everything the Survivors have come to expect will be wiped out in the first 10 minutes.
Who will outwit, outplay, and outlast all others in Palau?”

According to the official website, there will only be one tribe (at least for starters) and three contestants will get the boot during the first show.

Should be interesting!

The Koror Tribe: Caryn, Coby, Gregg, Ian, Janu, Jennifer, Katie, Tom, Willard

The Ulong Tribe: Angie, Bobby Jon, Ibrehem, James, Jeff, Kim, Stephenie

The Losers: Ashlee, Jolanda, Jonathan, Wanda

Well, Jeff Probst did say that every choice had consequences. And Koror’s choice of getting a new camp resulted in a cold, wet, rainy, rat infested camp. But, on the bright side, at least they didn’t have to go to Tribal Council.

Speaking of Tribal Council, the morning after their first, Ulong “made the choice” of not picking a leader. Instead “all decisions would be made by committee.” Yeah right! Just ask the U.N. how well that works!

The tribes were then called to the Reward Challenge where Jiff explained the challenge. (Paraphrasing) “The players were to run through a "gauntlet" bridge, requiring them to cross several floating obstacles over water in order to collect flags on the other side. As they were crossing, two opposing tribemembers would be hurling swinging bags of sand at them all the while. If knocked off, the player would be forced to go back to the beginning. The first tribe to collect all 10 of their flags would win a Reward consisting of fins, mask and a Hawaiian fishing sling.”

While both teams had a difficult time negotiating the course, Koror’s Katie, lacking the upper body strength, had a difficult time even finishing the rope swing. (Jeff had stated that each member of the tribes must at least complete this part of the race.) Meanwhile, Ulong’s Angie had little problem with the course collecting most of the tribes 10 flags, to win Reward for Ulong, which included not only the fishing gear, but a flint for making fire.

Back at camp, the Ulongs quickly divided up into groups, one built fire and the other went fishing. While over at the Koror camp, the men decided that the only way they were going to get fire was to retrieve their flint from the ocean floor. After several attempts, Ian finally managed to wrestle the heavy trunk into the outrigger.

Over at Ulong, the tribe settles down to enjoy some clam chowder. Ashlee, however keeps to herself, wanting no part of the meal. This leads many from Ulong to wonder if she was losing her will to continue in the game.

While night fell in Palau, it became clear that the cuddling up of some members was more than just an attempt to keep warm. Kim and Jeff at Ulong were getting quite cozy while Jennifer and Gregg at Koror explored each other’s, um, bug bites shall we say.

Back from the commercial break, the tribes are called to the Immunity Challenge. (After receiving an all too quick lesson in Morse Code.) Jeff explains the Challenge. “Two heavy foot lockers, filled with mess kits, were resting on the ocean floor. Each tribe must swim out to a marker buoy, dive down, find a rope attached to the foot locker, then pull it 50 feet across the ocean floor. Once the foot locker reaches the start point, the tribes must unlatch the lockers, thus releasing the mess kits. Each tribe member would retrieve one mess kit, then swim back to the beach. Each mess kit had a Morse code letter inscribed on it. The first tribe to decipher the Morse code and spell out the mystery word would win the crucial Immunity Challenge.”

Even though Koror fell behind at the start due to Willard's slow swimming, Tom provided all the power the tribe needed to pull the heavy foot locker across the ocean floor. Ulong, on the other hand, had a difficult time even getting their foot locker to budge, and Kim didn’t even try. While Ulong was still trying to budge their foot locker, Koror easily spelled out “Immunity” in Morse code to win the ugly idol yet again.

Returning to camp, Ulong had to decide who would get the boot at Tribal Council. Mark Burnett and the producers attempted to have us to believe that the tribe was evenly split between Kim (who flounder at the Challenge) and Ashlee (who had lost the will to continue in the game.) But in the end, with six out of eight votes, Ashlee was sent packing.

Now, for those of you who cannot or will not view the videos from the SeeBS website, here is a transcript of what each player said (at least as much is can be determined) while voting and Ashlee final words.

Stephenie (Votes Ashley): My vote's for Ashley. I don't want to do this, but I think it's time for you to go. I think this is what's best for our team right now and I'm just going to honor what I believe is your wish. I'll miss you.

Bobby Jon (Votes Ashley): No hard feelings.

Angie (Votes Ashlee): I didn't want to vote for you at all, but you asked. So I guess ye shall receive.

James (Votes Ashley): Ashlee, I wish you would've hung in there. You were supposed to be part of the redneck brothers. Good luck. We love you.

Ashlee (Votes Jeff): My biggest is only because your hormones are way too loud and it's a distraction to the game.

Ibrehem (Votes Kim): Ashlee was the one who picked me to be on this tribe so I just feel like I have to be loyal to her right now. Sorry.

Kim (Votes Ashley): I'm voting on my instincts here to vote for Ashlee. I'm hoping I can stay in. This is just a game. Both of us are on the chopping block tonight.

Jeff (Votes Ashley): I'm a man of my word, and plus, you bug the hell out of me.

------------- Ashlee's Final Words

“I wish my tribemates the best of luck, though they don't need it because they are all amazing. I am not surprised by the votes tonight, I think that they all sensed I was ready to go home.

Physically, it has been a challenge, the hardest part for me, was emotionally. As much as I like to have thought that I am a vindicative, deceitful person, and can talk bad about people behind their back for a million dollars, gosh I wish I could, I wish so bad I could. But I can't, and they all sensed it, so I am not surprised at all. I am cheering them all, and I know they will do great, and I want to see them kick butt.

The thing I take away from this whole experience for the most, is being grateful for the small things. It really humbles you. Most importantly, it really teaches you a lot about yourself, and your weaknesses and your strengths. I can take away from this whole experience my weaknesses and know that I need to work harder in those areas. And I am just so fortunate that I could have that opportunity to have that.

You wouldn't think that in only six days you could learn so much but I certainly I did. The only regret that I have is that I didn't use the excuse that I was cold to cuddle with Ibrehem because he sure is a cutie.”

Well, there you have it. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m still fighting this lousy flu so bub-by till Thursday. Just kvetch amongst yourselves.

Again, as a reminder, due to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (a.k.a March Madness), the 5th and 6th episodes of Survivor; Palau will be broadcast on Wednesday instead of Thursday. That’s the 16th and 23rd. Episode 7 will resume regular Thursday night broadcasts on March 31st. Set your VCRs and TIVOs accordingly.

Take care,

but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up,
totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming....
Wow, what a ride!"

Freepmail me if you want added to or removed from the Survivor Ping List!

A great summation as usual, for which many thanks.

Ashley? Ashley? All I can think of is Scarlet O'Hara calling out for her dear Ashley, who was a guy and just a slightly more imposing figure than our ex-Survivor.

This Ashley is very easy to forget.

I can't believe anyone would want removed from your ping list. Thanks for a great re-cap, and date change reminder.

I personally think the hairy underarms are the really distracting thing about Angie.

The Koror Tribe: Caryn, Coby, Gregg, Ian, Janu, Jennifer, Katie, Tom, Willard

The Ulong Tribe: Angie, Bobby Jon, Ibrehem, James, Jeff, Kim, Stephenie

The Losers: Ashlee, Jolanda, Jonathan, Wanda

Greetings fellow Survivor junkies! Its time once again for your weekly:

SURVIVOR PING!

First off, welcome aboard goes out to the following new Survivor Ping List – Ping-ees:
Canticle_of_Deborah

Now on to this week’s picks.

According to a compilation of the official SeeBS Website, the promo vidcaps for episode 3 and the various spoiler websites, the following is what we can expect to see tonight.

Tonight’s episode is titled: “Dangerous Creatures and Horrible Setbacks”

One tribe relaxes after winning a Challenge, which annoys a tribemate frustrated with the lack of a work ethic. - General consensus has Ulong again winning the Reward challenge and either Angie, Bobby Jon or Stephenie (who by the way give all impressions of having an alliance) annoyed with Jeff and Kim cuddling.

A war of words erupts between two tribe members as one lays into the other for being bossy. - Katie and Caryn have it out over at Koror.

Just as a Challenge is set to begin, one tribe faces a setback when a member suffers an injury. Will this affect their ability to compete? - General consensus has Jeff suffering an injury to his ankle or foot and has to “quit” (read-give up) almost at the start of the Immunity Challenge.

Two fearless castaways take it upon themselves to confront some deadly creatures on the island. - Vidcaps show Tom and Ian hunting wabbits er, sharks.

The Reward Challenge appears to be a race into the water with fighting over life preservers. Kind of like a musical chairs only with life rings.

The Immunity Challenge is more brutal, with each team member loaded down with a 25 pound backpack (full of sand). Teams are on opposite sides of a large ring in the water. Jeff says go and the teams must race in the same direction and try to catch the other team. If a member of a team drops out, another member of the team must carry his/her backpack.

Well, enough of my flappin’ my gums, its time for:

Cuz’s Weekly Survivor Picks!

Reward Challenge winner – Ulong
Immunity Challenge winner - Koror
Bootee(s) - I’m more and more convinced that it’s Jeff’s time to go.

Finally, just as a reminder, due to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (a.k.a March Madness), the 5th and 6th episodes of Survivor; Palau will be broadcast on Wednesday instead of Thursday. That’s the 16th and 23rd. Episode 7 will resume regular Thursday night broadcasts on March 31st. Set your VCRs and TIVOs accordingly.

Take care,

Thanks for the ping Cuz and the recaps. What would we do without you? I'll be at work as usual and will watch it later on tape tonight. Bet Tom does well in the immunity challenge. Those firefighters are used to heavy gear.

I TiVO'd "The Amazing Race" and watched it last night. Man those lipstick lesbians and the gay kid with his mom sure have it in for Rob and Amber, lol.

I wasn't going to root for the two Survivors, but after all the bitchiness about them from the other two leading teams, I am now officially rooting for Rob and Amber as well as the POW/Beauty Queen team.

**waving** Thanks!

Immunity Challenge winner - Koror Bootee(s) - I’m more and more convinced that it’s Jeff’s time to go.

Dunno. Ulong lacks physical strength and organization. They could use Jolanda about now. If they are smart they'll boot Kim and save Jeff for later. They need muscle.
