The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

So, they were for condoms before they were against them, or something? I'm confused. Was the early story falsely reported, or did someone do a quick back-pedal?

The RCC is organized in such a manner that there may be numerous "authorities" who can who can make "authorative" pronouncements and may, in turn, be overruled by another group of mysterious "authorities".

In the meantime the "faithful" do what they damn please.

No habla Espanol.

I gather it's a combination of both. Someone talking out of turn plus the media's love of creating controversy in the Church. Supposedly, the Vatican cracked the whip, prompting the clarification.

Jenny O’Connor, 47, said she was dismissed Saturday after acknowledging to the Rev. Fred Adamson, a vicargeneral, that she and her boyfriend married without the sanctity of a Catholic wedding because he is dying from cancer and they did not believe there was time to plan for and hold a church wedding.

Pretty damn stupid of her. Assuming this is the full story, that is. Just cause the bulletin says to arrange at least 6 months in advance with the parish priest for a wedding doesn't mean that things can't happen quicker in cases of emergencies. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Everything except those ads in the paper offering "Patriots Super Bowl Packages." ;-)

He he. The Colts web site had Championship Sweat Shirts on sale.

It should be a heluva game. The major weak spot for the Steelers may be Big Ben. The Patriots weak spots are the injuries in their secondary and it looks like they will be missing Richard Seymour.

You can't imagine how hard I was rooting for the Jets. :-)

In any event, the two best teams are where they should be.

Diocese worker fired over marriage

Well, there have to be priorities.

1. Enforce the Rules.
2. Protect the children.

Billichick should try to stack the line to stop the run and dare Ben to win in the air. In which case Plax and Hines and Antwaan will be in single-coverage. That's the conventional thinking, anyway. We'll try to run and run and run and you'll have to stop it.

The Patriots weak spots are the injuries in their secondary and it looks like they will be missing Richard Seymour.

They did OK against Peyton.

In any event, the two best teams are where they should be.

You don't hear much squawking from the anti-BCS folks who earlier likened the BCS to just having the Steelers and Patriots play, since they were #1 and #2. Well, here we are and in both Conferences #1 is playing #2. We could have avoided the last two weeks of playoffs.

You want a worker who can't control her own sexuality to be in charge of protecting children from illicit sexuality? That's bizarre.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and say NE is one of the best teams ever (dynasty) whether they win #3 or not. To beat Indy the way they did minus Poole, Law & Seymour is nothing short of amazing. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, hasn't really prooved anything yet. Cower hasn't won anything. This is the time for them to step up.

They did OK against Peyton.

The Colts receivers are known to be soft so the linebackers and cornerbacks knocked the hell out of them at the line of scrimmage (close to it). Not so with the Steelers. That strategy won't work because their receivers are tough and can't be intimidated. Even so, the Pat's were surprised that Manning didn't try to go deep on them.

If the Pat's were healthy I think they are the better team. As it is, I think the game is a tossup.

Watch for it to be a blowout. :-)

Actually, her job was to protect the children from the Priests.

#1, her scope is not limited to just priests, but any personnel who come into contact with children. But your obligatory dig is appreciated.

#2, you don't consider the abuse of the past to be "illicit sexuality"?

Cause that's what I said.

(Making every attempt to be objective.) I agree the Patriots record is amazing in light of the "modern era" of free agency.

Chances are they will lose both their Offensive Coordinator (already gone) and their Defensive Coordinator this year. They will also lose Ty Law (though he has missed most of the year anyway).

If they have continued success they are a true dynasty.

Hi Dave ... Happy New Year.

While it is perfectly understandable that the RC has the right to terminate its employees based upon their own behavior criteria ... it's a bit beyond the pale to say that this woman could not control her own sexuality.

She controlled herself in a perfectly God-given way ... by getting married (though I know the RC has problems with that).

And I think that she was more desperate than anything really (what with a dying boyfriend and all). Pretty heartless to refer to her as 'stupid'.

Forget it about it Reggie. The kid jokes were really cute. I never know what is coming out of Joshua's mouth and am starting to get uncomfortable with him going to the front of the church for a children's lesson on Sunday morning. The last two times have brought chuckles and laughs from the congregation.
