The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

I must of missed where you stopped believing in Christ for your salvation and turned to the other side.

What is this "other side" you speak of.

I think I have made it pretty clear that I believe salvation is possible through complete faith in Jesus as your personal saviour and that this belief is not necessary for your salvation!

We may find that no one of us has it completely right and that it makes no difference.

If you beileve he New Testament is true it makes a big difference.

And to think you will criticize a RC for proof texting a single verse of Scripture to "prove" Peter was the Rock. ;-)

What got all this started???? I Amen Dave for saying Mary was a virgin, and suddenly you put me in the Catholic Camp. Who are you to criticize me???

The whole prophecy is about what would happen to those who were plotting Judah's destruction. Judah's destruction was a future event.

I know that, and you know that most of the prophecy's about Christ in the Old Testament are dual prophecy's and thats the reason I believe the Jews are blinded to accept these as true.

The ONLY way this can be a Messianic verse referring to Yahshua the Messiah is to completely believe the New Teatament is from God, I do, you don't, we shall see who is right one day.

Exactly. The meaning of these OT verses is amplified by subsequent events, told in the NT. If these verses can be understood to be referring to a virgin giving birth to an Incarnate "God-With-Us" and a virgin did indeed give birth to Emmanuel, that kinda decides what it means, doesn't it?

I guess I just missed that, I didn't know you were THAT far off track. :)

And the Creation tale is a story about a piece of fruit.

That was actually for Becky because she asked me about the "days that have not come." But that's ok. You're just trying to be mean again. :-)

I used to think they were dual prophecies. Until I grew up and became blind. :-)

Though I have explained myself many times the following is a post I made to CindyDawg a while ago.

Font color=red" I believe that Jesus is equivalent to God to those who believe He is God.

I believe the doctrine of the Trinity is a man made doctrine.

I believe Jesus never claimed to be God.

I believe "On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father."

I will never attempt to force anyone to believe Jesus is the one and only God nor will I tell them they must believe so or be branded as a heretic.

I guess I will insist that it be proven from Scripture, not from the reasoning of men.

Had I moved over to "the other side" then?

Well, even if for arguments sake I assumed Mack was correct and that these prophecies are dual, there had to be an original context. So back off or I'll cheer for the Patriots this week. :-)

I don't think anyone's saying there isn't an "original context." Of course there is. But that's not all there is.

Fine. If you want to compare the original context of these verses in Isaiah to a piece of fruit, be my guest. Its my opinion the Messianic context of these verses are forced.

You also Amen'd to her Perpetual Virginity. That is what I questioned.

"Don't worry. You won't see Catholics without the Virgin Mary. 1 spark is barking up the wrong tree. Almah being better-translated as "maiden" than "virgin" doesn't change the fact that Mary was, is and will ever be a Virgin.

Why are you attacking me? Don't you know how sensitive I am?

Thanks Dave, now if you accept the New Testament as true, there in lays the REST OF THE STORY.

I misread Dave's post. I thought he was saying that to him Mary would always be virgin as Christs mother. I wasn't thinking of the "perpetual virgin" issue. Show's how catholic I am.
