After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. I must say, attaching a replica of cheddar to a human head causes one to ponder. :-)
They also put a block of cheddar and a cow's head on their state quarter. Though they somehow resisted putting the cheddar on the cow's head. ;-)

At least it's creative. I was watching the second regular season game vs. the Vikings, and saw a Vikings fan wearing a bluish-purple-spraypainted cheesehead with horns attached. You'd think they could come up with something original! ;o)
"Cheesehead" originated as a derogatory name for Wisconsinites. Wearing a wedge of cheddar on one's head, then, is an ironic commentary on the prejudices of outstaters, primarily FIBs and Twinkies. :o)
Oh I get it. "Twinkies", people from the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Maybe they should wear Cake with whipped cream inside on their heads. :-)

I was watching the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous" the other night, which takes place in Minnesoda and they all have the accent down pretty good. What's the major difference between that and a Wisconsin accent? I can't tell.

I can't tell the difference between N. Dakota, MN or Wisc.
The best northern accented movies are "Simple Plan" with Billy Bob and also "Fargo." What's funny is that in the Fargo movie, the place where the guy put the body in the wood chopper was Moose lake, Minnesota where I was born. :-)
How did a Kansan get to be a Packers fan?
A term of endearment for our neighbors to the south. It doesn't refer to all Illini, but rather to the "Ugly Illinoying" tourist types. It stands for "effing Illinois b*st*rds". :o)
He was a kid back in ancient times when the Packers had some success. (with the exception of the fluke season in the mid-90's). So he became a frontrunner and adopted the Packers as his own. In keeping with his frontrunner personality his favorite baseball team is the Yankees and favorite basketball team is the Celtics. See what I have to put up with?
"Drop Dead Gorgeous" is a comedy fake-documentary along the lines of the Spinal Tap/Guffman/Best in Show genre about a teen beauty pageant in a small town in Minnesota. It's got a real good first hour, then the ending seems a bit tacked-on. But it is funny in that low-key kind of way. And everybody talks funny.

There isn't a single Wisconsin accent, but rather a number depending upon the ethnic makeup of the community. Used to be you could tell which little local community someone came from by their accent. Poles mostly lived in Menasha, Little Chute was mostly Dutch, etc. Now, people move around so much that there isn't as pronounced of a difference.
Minnesotans have a strong Scandinavian contingent, and that results in a somewhat different accent than the primarily Polish/German/Dutch/Belgian tones of Wisconsin. It seems that middle Europeans preferred Wisconsin, and Scandinavians liked the colder state of Minnesota!
