The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

Better yet, trust the old man when he tells you something.

Ya but how do I know you don't have Alzheimer's?

Yah - but I forget.

BTW, the Broncos are favored to beat the Steelers and to win the SuperBowl. Waddaya think of that?

A lot of the Parochial sportswriters in Boston are saying Cowher is dumb and will find a way to lose the game and Shanahan is smart and will find a way to win the game.

The Pats were hoping the Steelers would beat the Colts and we'd have the AFC championship in Foxborough. They overlooked one little thing - - - they had to beat the Broncos first.

I am wavering a little on my prediction the Steelers will win big. (It might have been sour grapes on my part).

In all seriousness I believe the Pats are a little stronger than the Broncos and, if they had played a good game, they would have won. In that event they'd surely depant and spank the Steelers.

As it turned out, Denver was the one which played the good game.

Whichever team wins the AFC PLEASE pound the NFC. That's all this old geezer has to look forward to now.

The toughest team left in the NFC?? The Panthers!

I like it better when they're not favored.

Dunno. That big QB the Steelers have scares me. More than anyone else on that team. Hopefully the injury to his triceps which occurred at the end of last weeks' game will bother him. Still can't figure out why it wasn't listed on the injury report. The medical staff sure spent alot of time on it.

I told ya a few days could work wonders for disposition.

Of course you know I'm going to have to disagree here. You've had two shots at us already this season.

Ya think? Seattle looks pretty good.

Yes they do. I just think they are more of a finesse team while the Panthers are more smash mouth. Either of them would be tough.

Its halftime. I concede. Reggie was right, Pittsburgh wins big. Roth is phenominal. I'd take him over Brady right now. Congrats Dave. Good Luck in the SB.

The Steelers looked awfully strong but the SeaHawks looked pretty good too. I think the Steelers will be favored by 6 1/2 points (more or less) but they should be favored.

"Roth is phenominal. I'd take him over Brady right now."

Are we getting a little carried away? Let's see if he carries the Steelers to a couple more SuperBowl wins in the next few years. That said, he has been playing some very good football.

Dave, don't rest on your laurels. Go out there and work your tail off. Pay the proper respect to the SeaHawks and then tear their heart out.

It pains me to say this because Matt Hassleback played for B.C. and his father played for the old Patriots but he now plays for my sworn enemy - the NFC!

GO STEELERS - - - GO BIG!

The Seahawks impressed me more than I expected. Or the Panthers were really bad. I'm not sure.

It looks like the game will be won or lost on the QBs, and i'd rather have Ben than Hasselbeck.

It is just fantastic that this season is ending up like this. After going from 7-2 to 7-5, the team has been playing "must win" games for 7 weeks now. To actually be able to get Bettis to his hometown for a Super Bowl is almost like a dream. We do need to keep it together for one more game, but I can tell you this: Detroit's going to be crawling with Steeler fans. Every Tom, Dick and Harry's going to go for a road trip, if just to get into the party scene.

Yes, "24" is back. And this time it's personal. Even Kimmy is going to be back. Later on, when it's Prison Break and 24 on the same night, it's gonna be great.

Sarah is doing fine. She starts kindergarten this fall, I've been trying to drill her on writing her letters.

I don't think so. Since Pitt, the past two games vs a couple of good teams, has decided to throw the ball Ben has been like a man among boys. He has great size, has ample mobility and is now proving he has skills. I'm scared. Pittsburgh is gonna be right up there for a long time as long as he stays healthy.

"Didn't USC lose the title game? Why are we still going on about them?"

The same reason they go on about the clintons.

Yeah, I'm late to the game (over 10 days behind this conversation). I don't get on here much anymore.

Congrats to the Stillers, Dave. Looks like they might join the 5 trophy club.

The Steelers need to send a box of steaks to the Chiefs and the Cowboys. The Chiefs for beating San Diego and knocking them out of playoff contention. And the Cowboys for beating the Chiefs.

Had the Cowboys lost that game, the Steelers wouldn't have made the playoffs!
