The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

About 10 years ago, in an historic cemetery just a few miles from here, they buried a guy in his car.

Ok, I'm curious. Which cemetary and was there a connection with the guy and his car?

The cemetery is called "Brush Creek." I meant historic not in the sense that it was widely known about the world for something-or-other, but rather that it, and its Presbyterian Church, dates to the 18th Century and was one of the first Churches established out here in the frontier west of the Alleghenies.

The guy, obviously, loved his car.

I guess so! :) People are really personalizing their funerals lately I guess.

I usually just try to personalize the flowers I send by taking items to the florist and having them insert them into the arrangement.

My husband's uncle was a master woodworker so we had a rather masculine floral arrangement of leaves/cat tails, pebbles and a couple of pieces of wood inserted. It was striking and personified his life.

I'm not sure I'd want to walk into a funeral home and have the deceased sitting there in a chair like nothing happened.

For anyone interested ...

Way back when, I posted info on our new church building. Click on the pic below to go to the Saint Jude home page and click on Cam A and Cam B for some live construction shots. It was supposed to be completed by now, but a rainy winter set us back. Looks like it'll be ready this Fall. It will look like the rendering below, but without the bell tower. We'll add that at a later date.

Looks like its being built real well. I'd have to say it looks like there's a great chance of one stone being left upon another. :-)

Whats you boys up too?

I've been working my @ss off :)

Leave the house at 5:30 - 6:00 am on the parking lot at 7, clean fill cracks, seal coat and then stripe, (we put down a little over 2000 gals of sealer in the last four days) finish up about 3 pm, go pickup seal coat & paint for the next day get home about 5 or 6 pm.

It's terrible :)

We just finished Claremore High and Jr High Schools and are headed to Squawa Schools tomorrow.

Dang, too bad you have to toil. Could be worse, the pain of childbirth perhaps. :-)

Aren't you glad you're semi-retired?

I had a gallstone which was too big to pass. It got stuck in the common bile duct. And, yes, it hurt. The Nurse told me it was the closest thing to childbirth.

I have had my childbirth activity and don't plan on any more. :-)

I hear passing kidney stones are akin to childbirth. :-)

I try to drink enough beer to dissolve any developing kidney stones. :-)

Should be. The team was 1-8 last year and hired a new coach for this year from a successful program. Now Butkus is going to be their "head coach," while the new real coach tries to turn around the program.

Everybody has consented to having their games filmed except for the season-ender at West Allegheny, whose coach is Pitt QB's dad (and former coach).

Local dude pretends to be Ben Roethlisberger to impress women. (Even more bizarre, he also had earlier pretended to be 3rd string QB Brian St. Pierre.)

Looks like he's eaten a few too many Roethlisburgers to pass himself off as an NFL quarterback! ;o)
