The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

Hi Mal. Those pictures are just plain gorgeous. I see you have a little bit of white water going on in the one. Did you catch any fish? Brook trout?

Very nice Mal. Friday aft and eve after work I went up
to dillon lake by breckenride, me and my little nephew, and we caught our limit of 2-3 lb browns and rainbows. I love memorial day weekend.

Very pretty scenery. Did you catch any fish?

Check out this link. This is what I did yesterday. From about post #5872 to 5900, I post pictures. This ranch is just up th road from me, but I have only rode on it one other time, but not to this extent.

I wasn't fishing on that river, but on the Menominee River (in front of the cottage). I was going for smallmouth bass, but the water is still a little cold, so there wasn't much action. I caught one, but it was below the size limit so I released it. The fishing will be better in a few weeks. Still, it was great being outdoors! It was supposed to rain all weekend, so when the forecast was better than expected it was a treat. Late in the day on Sunday, as the sun was setting, the water was mirror calm. You could see the clouds and sky, with all the colors of the sunset, and the opposite shore, perfectly reflected on the water. Beautiful!

I saw lots of birds and wildlife, too. A few bald eagles, wild turkeys, deer, a bluebird, a rose-breasted grosbeak, a sandhill crane, among many others. When I was fishing I could see and hear the turkeys on the other side of the river. They were making a lot of noise, and then suddenly one launched itself over the water, just skimming the surface, and landed about 20 yards downstream of me.

Looks like a good river for fishing for bass. Fairly calm and scattered shade. The Menominee huh. Be careful if you ever go skating on that river.

A couple of months ago I thought I would type in the name of someone I used to work with years ago, just to see if anything came up. Oddly enough she did show up in a search. Sadly, it was for an obituary for her son that was 37 and had gone skating on the river alone. He fell through.

On saturday I went on a very exciting trip myself - right into a hot oven. I ended up in the ER with two slightly burned fingers and a well seared, medium rare, forearm. I wish I could do something fun for a change. :(

To top it off I got a call from the Doctors office this morning telling me (I thought) that I tested positive for Lymes disease. It turned out that the tick which bit me tested positive as a Lymes disease carrier (I already knew that) and I tested negative. No matter, I am still on a 3 week course of DOXYCYCL as a precaution.

My tick report and blood test was sent to two different Doctors by mistake and I got calls from both offices. Between my cracked skull and burned arm I haven't been feeling on top of the world and I was probably predisposed to believe the worst when I got the call this morning. I have been in one of those "oh woe is me" moods for a while and the Winter weather all through May hasn't helped.

Reggie, very sorry to hear of your mishap. Hope you are not in too much pain, but glad you checked in. I was going to ping you just to find out where you have been hiding. I didn't realize it was the oven. You're not supposed to cremate yourself while still alive.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about your injury; I hope you're feeling better soon.

You've been having the kind of spring (or lack thereof) we had last year. We'll try to send some sunshine and warmer weather your way.

Still less painful than watching Britney Spears' trainwreck of a career-killing home-movie reality show. Tonight at 9 ET on UPN. It's really, really awful.

You'd have to be a masochist to willingly inflict that on yourself. Either that, or paying penance for some really bad sins.

It was a morbid curiosity at first. Now it's just utter disbelief that no one in her sphere was willing, or perhaps capable, of dissuading her from actually airing this.

It's like she's cut out the middleman and went straight into airing her own dirty laundry and embarrasing secrets. Her rendezvous with Mr. Hefner's publication nears.

The tick was in my own yard and the oven is in my kitchen. My exciting trips are virtual reality; :-)

I'll try not to. Based on my sampling it would be a painful process. :(

Thanks for your thoughts. Actually, I'm not in too much pain but I have been advised it takes quite a while for the burns to heal.

I might even change my ways. I sure don't want to burn in hell. :-)
