After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
Gee Dave, where did I make any mention about G-d? Can you explain why flowers are given to a graven/molten image? And why they recited some prayer to MAry while palcing that wreath on the statue?
The implication is usually that this is some form of worship.
Can you explain why flowers are given to a graven/molten image?
Could be it's symbolic.
And why they recited some prayer to MAry while palcing that wreath on the statue?
Because May is the month of Mary.

The priest did explain that they were revering Mary because her body was taken to heaven. I wanted so much to yell out, 'What book and verse is that?'
If your husband gives you flowers this weekend, it means he thinks you're God?
Some of us are uncomfortable with such veneration being directed toward a statue. While I do understand the inner intentionality of such gestures -- that the veneration is directed toward the 'real' Mary (which in itself is a rich field for theological disagreement), and not to the image -- the outward form looks, from my perspective, too closely akin to idolatry. Thus the cringe factor.
Before we have a name contest, we have to know what kind of music they're gonna play. For example, if they are going to play 50's/60's rock, they could be the Hot Tops. :o)
The same one that says "May is the month of Mary". ;o)
Why not pray to Mary and the other saints? Why exclude God's family from your prayer life?
Too much of the individualism common in American Protestantism reduces salvation to strictly a "Jesus and me" thing. I look forward not only to uniting with God, but also to uniting with all of God's saints.

Without an incarnational God, you have a point.

I'm not sure how this fits in, but I just have to say:

what do you mean contest? I've already won. :-)
If you accept 1 Ti 2:5 then you accept that there is only one mediator, so, why do you pray to Mary and others? What's the purpose?
Isaiah 42
8 I am YHWH, that is My name; and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.
Hmm, YHWH doesn't praise graven images, so we probably shouldn't be doing so either.
Isaiah 49:26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I YHWH am thy Saviour, and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

Why would you ask anyone to pray for you?

1 Ti 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
I guess you don't accept 1 Ti 2:5 as innerant.
Incidentally, if Yehoshua is both G-d/YHWH and a man, why would he need a mediator? In fact, why would G-d need a mediator at all? Doesn't YHWH already know what we think and feel and what is in our hearts? Why would He need a human to tell Him what He already knows?
LOL. God doesn't need a mediator. We do.
Jesus is quite literally the link between humanity and divinity. He has one foot in both camps. He's the bridge.
It's like having a child mediate a fight between two parents, cause the child is literally the combination of the two parents. The Child is what brings us together.

You don't need a mediator. If you did, Yehoshua wouldn't have told you how to pray. You know, 'The Our Father'. How many mediators do you think you need?

Is this verse innerant or not? How many mediators do you think you need?
Why are you avoiding aswering?
