After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
Dave, you of all people should understand the use of exaggerated rhetoric to make a point. :o)

Also, I'd guess that people living in Israel have a different perspective on the steadiness of American support. While American citizens have always been strongly supportive of Israel, our government has vacillated between support and appeasement of the Arabs. Jimmy Carter, James Baker, Bill Clinton, and the career staff at the State Dept. are all examples of why Israelis might question the consistency of the support of the American government.

I tjhink the author is using 'people' synonomously with 'nation'. While there are many in the US that would mourn for Israel, there would also be a large portion that would not care. I think the author just means that there is no other Jewish nation to grieve.
Given the MSM reaction to his election, you'd figure he was the type of guy who drowns kittens for sport.

I was actually in Regensburg once, for dinner, when I was stuck in a local burg for a few weeks. Like many Bavarian towns, it was old and dominated by a lovely Cathedral. The steak was OK, but with that strange taste you get in Europe. I suspect it's cause the cattle aren't corn-fed. The beer was excellent.

The part about him trying every type of christmas cookie might find him getting a lot of christmas cookies. Remember RR with the jelly beans?
The cathedrals I've been in seemed so dark.
Well, this particular one I only saw the outside of.
I've been in a few in Italy, and they definitely have an atmosphere. It is a different sort of space, and they have a sense of permanence, with their giant stones and towering features. They're built for the ages in a way that too much of America is not. The new WalMart need only be built to last until they build a bigger, newer one.

Atmosphere was a good word for it! lol They might be dark but their stonework is usually awesome.
Excuse me. I'm merely marking a spot. Malakhi keeps moving this thread without telling me.
Great, now I have to re-mark it. :-)

Quite naturally, I suspected that high officials of the Catholic Church were involved.

That's ok, as long as you do:') I'm too busy trying to figure out the TBA. We both need to keep an eye on our guys though.
Thank you Dave.
