After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
Okay..... Do you think that every person that died and was buried has all their bones will there with them? What about those bones that animals have carried off and SCATTERED?
LOL
Are you an animal? How can you have so much difficulty understanding what is, to me, a simple concept? When someone dies, you bury them. You can reduce them to ashes first, if you want. But then you bury or otherwise inter them in an honorable place.
I don't care if 100 years from now worms eat the body. If I'm travelling through a deserted place, I don't care if 30 minutes after we leave a wolfpack digs the body up and eats it.
The point is to bury the body in order to show respect for what was the container of the Holy Spirit.
This in NO WAY means that I am trusting all the body parts to be together in order for God to resurrect it.

What does it matter if an animal comes along and scatters the remains or if the loved ones scatter the remains? It's somehow ok if the animal does it but not okay if family does it? Which would be more respectful? Gee, I think the family would be more respectful than some animal that doesn't even comprehend 'respect'.
Why are you so obtuse?
I never said we were forbidden to cremate. Never. Ever.
It's somehow ok if the animal does it but not okay if family does it?
You don't believe humans are supposed to behave differently than animals?
SD
Last I looked there were no commandments forbidding scattering of remains either, but I'll look again, if it will make you happy.
Yes, I do. Animals use instinct, but we can reason and rationalize and realize that it doesn't matter if the human remains are scattered, because the spirit leaves the body at death.
I understand your position. I don't think you understand mine.

Look for instructions on what to do with the bodies of the dead.

Very good. Then you can see how what animals may do doesn't really have an impact on what humans should do.

What book are they in? Will it say that YHWH commands that all the bones and body parts must be buried together?
I don't know. That's why I'm asking those more expertise in Judaism.
The best I can find real quickly is: Deut:21 22And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:
23His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
This is about hanging evil men, but the point remains that God seems to be pointing out that not burying the dead will defile the land.
Likewise, there are various references in Genesis to obtaining land for burying purposes. It seems that burying is the thing to do.

thanx cindy
weather spotter eh? lol. You're snowed in and you call and say we got two feet? Or are you like the people on "Twister"?
In warmer months, the concern is with severe thunderstorms, hail, strong straight line winds, tornadoes and the like. Although heavy rain and flash flooding, as well as particular cloud formations which tend to anticipate severe weather, are also reported. In winter, they do ask spotters to call in with snowfall measurements.
He probably went out and got one of them spinning-ball-how-fast-is-the-wind-today weather thingies, hooked it up to his PC and monitors is for daily peaks and valleys. ;-)

I wonder if that defile the land thing is about disease from decaying bodies. Burning would be better for that. Didn't they burn bodies during the plague?
Hey. we took in another cat. The owners said she was destined for the humane society. She is OVERWEIGHT. We are trying to get her to play more and I bought some special food for her and am measuring it out. Vet says that she doesn't have diabetis. This cat weighs 16.5 pounds. I took her to the vet for her shots and a check up, especially wanted to make sure that there weren't 8 pounds of kittens inside! lol
Ever had to deal with an overweight cat? Got any ideas? She's very nice and we named her Cuddles.
I can show you Canon law that permits cremation and discusses burial, but nothing that dispenses cremated bodies from burial.
