The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

Looking at the entire history of the league, the Packers won three titles by league standing from 1929-1931. Since the league instituted a championship game, the Packers have appeared in the championship game 12 times, winning 9 of them, for a total of 12 NFL championships. In the history of the league, then, the Packers have been the most successful franchise. That is also indisputable.

OK. The point is, you can't really compare different era's.

I would love to see the Packers return to the top echelon.

I am happy to see the Steelers return to the top echelon.

I am thrilled that the Patriots have finally reached that peak and I am aware it won't last. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Toledo?

Yes, but just by accident. I was passing by on my way home from western Michigan. And a certain someone there needed a few minutes of my attention.

NHL Fans Are Sick, Tired

I found myself watching Arena football last weekend. And I know there's another game on tonight. Even worse, in my motel room in Michigan they had what appeared to be a high school game shot with one camera and with an announcer who sounded to be inside of a plastic cup, and I watched that for a few minutes.

Big changes are happening already. The Pat's have already lost their offensive and defensive coordinators, several of their assistants are being courted by other teams for coordinator positions and yesterday they lost their $ guru Andy Wasynczuk to Harvard Business School of all places.

Wasynzcuk was the COO of the entire Kraft enterprises and is the man most responsible for managing the salary cap. His loss may well be more critical than losing a few coaches.

I believe it. Having someone on board who understands the intricacies of the cap is an absolute necessity.

Sorry so long in getting back.

RE:"Do you accept all of John's testimony (i.e. his gospel, all of his 3 letters, ... and the Revelation) ? "

I do not interpret scripture in the literal sense that most seem to. I try to weigh it all, in context, for consistency...and for what makes sense. Does anyone really accept ALL biblical testimony? I don't think so. Nicene Christians don't really accept it face value. If they did, Jesus wouldn't be God. They had to toss out, or explain away, the Shema and all those passages emphatically stating that God is ONE. They also had to rationalize all those verses that point out Jesus is subordinate to God. Jesus tells us that he came to preach the gospel (good news)...and the Nicene Christians changed that good news. So...in a sense we're all guilty of "picking and choosing". Personally, i have to go with what is most consistent, makes sense, and rings true for me. IMO, it's the Nicene (Constantinian) Christians who did not accept ALL scripture. And, IMO, they even embellished the existing scripture.

Going to a Valentines Banquet tonight at church. Eddie and my son and DIL too. They all readily agreed a month ago but now acting like they are having to go to a funeral. I don't know how many times I have been asked "what time is it tonight?" and "no preaching?" grrrr

I found something interesting in tonights lesson. Have you ever heard of a guy in the 1600's called Elias Keach? Seems his dad was a preacher and he went to church and because he wore a black suit the congregation thought he was a preacher and wanted him to preach. Since he knew the words, he gave them what they wanted but something happened and half way thru he admitted he wasn't saved . The people prayed for him and he led himself to Christ from his own preaching! :')

Some day, if you try hard enough, you might actually understand the teachign of the Trinity. Or at least understand it enough to not say silly things like that. The Trinity neither denies the Unity of God, nor does it deny the Son's role in relation to the Father.
