After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
It's more than that. The scam is that there is a pre trib rapture. The scam is that 'some' people' will escape the tribulation because of this 'rapture', when that is NOT true.
You 'might' be able to suggest that after the tribulation 'some' will meet Jesus in the air, but it is NOT as an escape from the tribulation.
I think people believe in it cause they believe in it.
While I do think it is an errant understanding of eschatology, I was primarily making an allusion to Seinfeld's Kramer. While inquiring about the return of his rug shampooer and offered a vacuum cleaner, he remarked that the vacuum cleaner is the biggest scam perpetuated on America since one hour Martinizing.
I just think it's a funny line.

When I used to live upstairs from the missus, it was nice. Of course, I was neither paying the gas bill nor expecting the taxpayers and/or charities to pay it.
I'll have a letter published tomorrow about it. Suffice it to say, were I tasked with writing a sob story about poor people and high gas bills I wouldn't pick someone who is so obvlivious to the consequences of setting the thermostat to 75 degrees.
I'm sure I'll get some Grinch feedback.

I think you pretty much set yourself and the kind in for a lot of strife if you try to early. Sarah physically wasn't even ready until this past summer. Earlier attempts were frustrating, so we waited until she had control. Now it's more of a mental game. If she listens to us and tries frequently, she's OK. When she allows herself to get distracted or ignores us, she has problems. For which we gently remind her that we told her so.

Gee, why didn't Russert press the issue when it really mattered? Still it will be interesting. I thought the SBV had signed the 180. If not, then I wonder why they hadn't, since that would have been a good ad, too.
LOL, maybe that's why the upstairs lady can get away with keeping hers at 60!
Gosh, I've never seen it and I've seen a lot.
He'll probably do a deep six on it.
In all seriousness I'd like to follow through on this story.
That's almost unbelievable though 75 degrees is much too high.
I don't spend $1,200 a year for electricity and fuel combined.
No!
No!
This article is supposed to tell you about how the "assistance" programs are having a tough time keeping up with demand and how difficult it is to be poor. Hearing someone keeps her (taxpayer subsisdised) apartment at a "comfortable" 75 and then expects others to pay the bill doesn't put me in a giving mood.
My last gas bill was $100, that's heat and hot water. The worst was last year at $160. Course, I keep it around 66 degrees cause I have to pay my own bills.

Weren't there more than 250 Swift Boat Veterans? In any event what relevancy would that have to our Vietnam hero who wanted to be our President?
Now that I'm old and feeble I find that I must keep it warmer - 72 degrees daytime and 62 degrees bedtime. I am fortunate in that I get thermal warming from whatever sun there is and that helps a great deal.
Maybe one of the reasons she requires "assistance" is because she's pretty dumb.
Sterilization required?
I figure when I get to be your age, we'll all have our own home fusion heaters, so I won't have to worry about getting chilled. Either that or my patented time machine/heat pump will come to fruition. It's a simple idea, really. You take the heat from the summer and pump it to next January. It provides heating where it's needed and cooling on the other end. All at little cost. I'll sell a million of them.

Hi Quester! Got a question for you. Since there are verses that indicate that when you die, you are no longer conscious or aware of what goes on, why do people pray to the deceased to intercede?
To get answer to that question ... it would be best to ask someone who prays to the deceased for intercession.
In other words ... that's not a Protestant (NC) thing.
I found what I was looking for.
"The facts are that 250 of Kerry's former shipmates, including 17 of the 24 officers in his division, signed a public letter saying he's not fit to be the commander-in-chief," said retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffmann, who commanded the fleet of swift boats during Kerry's tour of duty.
It's simply a particular understanding of last days events ... one of many.
Christians have been escaping the Tribulation for almost 2000 years now.
All those christians which have died to this date (barring those who endured Tribulation-like persecution for their faith) ... have, in fact, ... escaped the Tribulation.
Jesus appears to promise such an escape to the faithful ...Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.As I said earlier ... the pre-Tribulation rapture is, simply, one of many theories as to how a part the final consumation of Biblical events might unfold.
----------------------------------------------------------
Revelation 3:10 Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
The theory is, by no means, accepted by all NC Christians. Within the typical Protestant (NC) church, members will hold various views on how the Last Days will play out. No particular version of belief on this issue is considered to be essential (or even significant) to one's christian life.
Even though I grew up in a NC church ... I never even had heard of the term Rapture until about 20 years ago.
It is not so widely taught as it is just popular (and published) right now.
I found this the other day. Multiple use: People food, animal food, hygiene products and now heat:')
Adrienne has really been wishing for spring. So on Sunday, I pulled out this countertop plastic greenhouse, and we planted some seeds. The greenhouse is large enough to hold half a dozen two-inch starter pots. I located some seed packets I had purchased last year, but had never got around to planting because our spring was so cool and wet. We filled the pots with soil, moistened them, and planted: yellow marigolds, black-eyed susans, grape tomato, lettuce, magenta morning glories, and red poppies. We put 4-6 seeds in each pot.
According to the packets, the earliest were expected to germinate in 5-10 days, while the poppies can take 15-30 days. I misted the surface of the pots again this morning, and tonight there are some sprouts already starting to come up: one of the morning glory seeds, and three lettuce sprouts.
It will be interesting to see how well I can get them to grow and thrive indoors, since we are a looooong way away from being able to plant outside. I do have great morning sun in the living room, and afternoon sun in the kitchen. The kids are very excited to have the start of an indoor garden! :o)
