Howdy Freepers, you gotta keep those PC's clean and healthy, so I thought I'd share this with you.
Microsoft has purchased Giant Corporation, makers of the powerful (and very expensive $$) Giant Antispyware suite.
They have essentially repackaged the program and are now offering it free for download to the public. This is an excellent program that is continually updated for the latest spyware threats. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Here is the site with download link:

I guess this will put ad-aware and spybot mostly out of biz. I'll have to check it out when I get home.
It actually is pretty good, I downloaded it and used it this weekend to clean all kinds of garbage out of my system...JFK

woops...I missed the original post. Just found out about this program and gave it a shot. It found around 40 things missed by my combination of Ad-Aware AND Spybot!
Wake me when the critical security patches come out.
been using it for 2 or so weeks...
future computer purchase ping
That's because there is a new version out. Have you upgraded? (The latest version is Adware SE v1.05.)
Don't you mean to keep our PC's creaking and wheezing along?
Someone just FReepmailed me and gave me a heads up that this program has caused problems on their corporate systems because of a different "directory naming convention" they used. I'm not a techie, and have used this program on two different PC's without any problems, but just wanted to pass the info along. The program is still in beta and is not guaranteed to work on all systems, esepcially if you have a unique or complicated setup, so use with caution.
What Labyrinthos said. Ad Aware won't downolad new file defs for the old version. You need to download Ad Aware SE. It's painless.
Last time I got duped by MS with a "beta" product was when they talked me (and about half the IT pro's in America) into "beta testing" Win95. Turns out there was no beta testing done. Just a gimmick to get you to load 95 on your machine right away. Absolutely nothing different between the beta and original release except it timed out at the end of the year and you had to buy the retail product or uninstall it.
Thanks but I think I'll wait till it's commercially released to find out how much MS wants for it before I bother installing it. It'll save me the trouble of uninstalling it.
SpyBot is actually pretty useful in conjunction with it. I purchased Giant before MS bought them, so I have them both on both my machines. SpyBot is really quite good. Another program I like is called RegCleaner, which helps me manage my registry entries.
I use Webroot's Spy Sweeper. Best $30 I ever spent.
This may be related to the Quaranitine routine it uses. For some spyware, that is especially persistant, Giant/MS actually allows the program to run in quarantine status. I suppose that thedirectory stucturing woudl have to be different from the normal directory naming conventions in order to trick the spyware into working from the quarantined locations.
This is all pure speculation of course.
Hmmmmm....this got rid of stuff I thought Norton, Adaware and Spybot deleted. My whites got whiter, and my colors never seemed so bright....Plus that Fresh Breeze smell. I'll take two dozen please.
