The SUV hit a mattress and exploded? Good thing it didn't hit a tree....It might have been pulverized into dust.

Nothing against Aaron Carter, I am glad he got away alive, but he's one of these manufactured Disney kids. I will never forget years ago I saw a segment on MTV where he was walking around in a Tupac Shakur t-shirt around the family mansion. I was thinking "What a poser".

Furniture on the highway is very common in Florida, but usually on the public highways, not the Turnpike.

Good thing to learn as early as possible.

It was like the mattress flew out of nowhere.

Nothing like being out on your bike with buddy and have two pieces of 4x8 plywood fly out of the truck coming up the interstate on-ramp. Both missed me but one caught my buddy right on the forks. His bike slid into mine and we were both down. I got up and while everything was still moving threw my helmet at the car that was sideways just feet from my buddy (both still sliding). Lucky, he was an off duty cop and knew how to drive. He pulled over the truck and radioed for an ambulance.

Just scrapes and bruises but they did hit the siren as we pulled into the emergency entrance. They rushed out expecting the worst and kept looking for the victims as we both stepped down out of the ambulance van.

I am shocked that there isn't any posts about "what if this had been a sedan" that had hit this mattress. It definitely wouldn't have lodged under the vechicle. More than likely the sedan would have flipped over and no telling how bad the occupants would have been hurt. I guess there is no end to only highlighting the negatives about SUVs and ignoring anything positive. And no, I do not own an SUV.

How long must this carnage go on? Isn't it about time we banned mattresses?

More than likely the matress was caught by a piece of metal under the SUV and it laid against the catalytic converter and caught fire. The catalytic converters in new cars get really hot, Never park a new car in a newly cut field or a pile of leaves. Not too long ago we had a fund raiser here and the people, putting it on cut weeds in a field so people could park there. You got it the catalytic converter caught the cut grass on fire and burned 4 cars before it was put out.

Carter rejected hospital care, choosing instead to spend the night at a friend's house recuperating partying.

Aaron Carter emerged unscathed from an accident late Wednesday night when he hit a mattress with his SUV, causing the vehicle to burst into flames.

Sounds like the SUV tried to make it look like an accident.
