JULIA ROBERTS' classic turn as a prostitute in PRETTY WOMAN has picked up another accolade - the best 'Chick Flick' of all-time.
The 1990 film, which also starred RICHARD GERE, beat THELMA + LOUISE and LOVE STORY to the top spot in a new book, THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO CHICK FLICKS.
Author KIM ADELMAN's top 10 is:
1. PRETTY WOMAN
2. THELMA + LOUISE
3. LOVE STORY
4. BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
5. BEACHES
6. THE WAY WE WERE
7. DIRTY DANCING
8. ROMAN HOLIDAY
9. HOW STELLA GOT HER GROOVE BACK
10. ALL ABOUT EVE
You got me confused!
Sorry--it was a bad joke!
Originally a favorite saying of Teddy Roosevelt's daughter Alice, who was a great gossip all her life.
"An Affair to Remember" is the number one chick flick of all time.
When I first read this I read it as "after her life". I thought, well that is quite a trick! It made more sense when I read it again. It's early for me still.
See post 183 for improved list.
The rest is dreck.
RE: "So, is there an "Ultimate Guy's Movie" list?"
Try this one, from the Men's Journal magazine. It's old (December 2003) but it will do in a pinch.

48) The Bridge on the River Kwai
49) Cool Hand Luke
50) Fletch
Pretty good list if you ask me; many of these films are either outright or cult classics. Glad to see a great, original films like Big Lebowski, Fight Club, and Diner recognized alongside the big boys of rockin' male cinema (aka Dirty Harry, Scarface, Caddyshack, John Wayne, Bruceb Willis).
Blade, Fletch, and Easy Rider aren't really up to this list in my opinion, but you can't win them all I guess.
As far as chick flicks go, I thought that When Harry Met Sally (Nora Ephron--1989) was absolutely hilarious, and it should have been included on the list.
Pretty Woman (the number 1 on this list) wasn't that bad.
More of a silly, good-natured fairy tale than anything real, but it did boast the sweetest, sexiest and most memorable performance to date by the overrated, overpaid actress Julia Roberts (and what happened to Eric? He used to be huge).
