I agree. USC dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. (Their receivers and QB also dominated OU's secondary.) The OU coach, who blamed it all on his team's "mistakes", didn't have the grace to admit the obvious.

OU was outcoached, too.

well wait a minute.....i've been pretty civil up to this point but you are missing it entirely....don't know why you feel you need to do that........it is the NFL scouts that rate him that high and other coaches..not a bunch of Cal fans....and when I said lame, i was being tongue in cheek. I don't mean he pulled up lame I mean that with all his talents if the wide outs were not that important then why did him numbers go down......not becuase of him per se, really.....ask the scouts.....and it is your "opinion about wide receiver.....in the pros you go out and get someone else......in college, you lose three...(3)....they are hard ot replace with freshman and soph who have practiced but haven't played......don't you agree that many patterns are timing patterns and when your main guys go out you can practice all youwant but your timing and feel for it is off.....again....he is not overrated......ask the scouts but you are just being obstinate at this point....if any team loses their two main passing threats and their best rover back on defense they will be not as good.....remember too.......we don't recruit like USC not throw as much money in the program being a public univ.....we are alot more well known for academics where as USC is known more for football........I"m not saying you have a bad institution at all but it no where ranks even close to Cal in most programs except for theater and drama......and well, something else

Yes, you are right. I forgot the most important ingredient of USC's success. Pete Carroll and Norm Chow and the rest of the Trojan coaching staff deserve high praise. The glass-half-full perspective on the characteristically slow starts of the Trojans is that the coaches know how to respond and adjust to what the other team is doing.

well than of course you can't watch them.......but what i argue with some dimwits here is that WE....see you guys play but many of the others don't see the pac 10 play so when they diss the pac 10, they are not using facts, they are using old misinformed, "it's always been that way" kind of logic.....it just doesn't pan out.....in reality most conf have 3 or four good teams and the rest are poor to middling.....every year

I don't blame you for getting defensive, especially since the attacks were unwarranted. Cal had a great team this year, and the injuries were a huge factor in the bowl loss.

I do object, however, to the assertion that USC is known only as a football university. In fact, it's been at least 20 years since they've even been a factor in that sport, but they've certainly been a factor in churning out doctors and judges in southern California.

Their graduation rate among student athletes is almost 20% (out of 100%) higher than Oklahoma, for example. It's fine to rightfully stand up for your academic prowess and athletic successes, but don't put down everyone else as some sort of a jock factory.

Ok, ok....Perhaps "nutballs" was too strong.

AU got the shaft, plain and simple.

I'm with you there -- they should've been USC's opponent. But the fact is that undefeated USC annihilated an undefeated OU team in their bowl game while undefeated AU just barely got by a 2-loss team (WV) in their game. The Trojans are the obvious pick for #1.

Remember (Trojan QB) Matt Leinart's first game ever (last year)? He led USC to a 23 - 0 destruction of AU in Auburn. Do you honestly think the outcome would be different now that he's two whole seasons more experienced and considered by many to be the best in the game? ....not to mention having a better supporting cast?

Too bad this can't be settled on the field of play. But until the idiots incorporate the bowls within some sort of playoff system we'll be having these fruitless arguments forever. Voting for national champions is so .......figure skating.

Hey -- I can watch them, but I do fly out West enough to see 'em. I knew they were great last year (and that Oklahoma wasn't) but they didn't get the chance to prove it against LSU. I also knew that Cal has given them fits.

see I didn't say that.....all the Calif schools are in the top 35 of all universities. What I meant and i"ll rephrase it is that USC (you) and Stanford spend far more for football than Cal. Private universities in the Pac 10 do and those other guys in the SEC and Big 12 etc spend more on football than academics period. Cal has rarely put football on any priority list which as you know USC does at least more so......I know USC is a good school, outstanding but most people don't realize that at the expense of football and other sports, Cal is the number one university in the world (us news rankings) have more 10 ten programs than anyone else in the US and more PH.D's than anyone. Most people (not you) hear Cal and think liberal and hippies but have no clue that Cal is so revered that they are uniformly heralded world wide....pure academics show Stanford, Cal , MIT and Harvard and Cal Tech and pretty much the cream of the crop......so I'm sorry if I offended you and didn't mean to but we are pretty proud of what Tedfor has done considering are resoureces are nearly as much as yours are for football......accept my apology if I misstated it.....

"Three very embarrassing bowl losses this seasons."

Not my Longhorns. That game was sweet.

well Tedford our coach turned it around two years ago when we were 1-10....last year we beat VT in the insight bowl in a shoot out at like 56-52........either way....we stayed with a fairly good program........later

Maybe among the ignoramuses. Those in the know are well aware that USC is a very fine university in many academic fields and is only getting better.

"OU was soooo bad last night that even Texas could have beaten them.."

Even Texas?! Just wait my friend. The only joke is that OU is ranked higher than UT right now.

Cal, of course, remains the flagship of the UC system, with some serious competition from the south in some academic departments.

see my post 268......i'll be sure you didn't mean "me" when you said ignoramisus since i've studied the top university rankings pretty seriously.....compared to everywhere else almost all the major universities in Calif are ranked higher than any of those in most other conferences...in fact i may be wrong on this but besides the Pac 10, I don't think there are any "football" universities in the top 25..in fact the highest rated Big 12 school is UT ranked in a tie for 46th........hell even UC Irvine and UC Santa Barabara are higher than that

I didn't read your post 268 until after I wrote my remark and I didn't mean to include you in the class of ignoramuses. I wouldn't take seriously any ranking that puts Texas below UCSB, however. How many Nobel Prize winners are on the faculty at UCSB?

no arguement there......we would just like our due every once in awhile.....hell, I don't even mean to be pissed at you......it is those loud mouths mainly in the Big 12 that are ignorant about anything that doesn't include the words "hike" in it.......they are pathetic or at least the ones I've encountered at ESPN forums today.....even some of the old timers told some of the newbie OU fans to get the hell out cause they have no idea about calif. Hell i may be a cal fan but I"m a Pac 10 guy all the way and I"ll stand up for USC and all against those knuckleheads any day........and i did......still am>>>LOL

I'd guess it's just a misunderstanding of what you wrote. Your explanation satisfies me.

Your university does suffer from the fact that the community surrounding it is so bonkers leftist that it probably qualifies as the most commie place on the planet today.

I did take one summer school class there years ago (and it's where I took the LSAT) and I never noticed a liberal bias. But I was also naive as hell in those days, so I'm not sure I would have noticed if Fidel Castro was my professor.

My most rightwing friend, and I can hardly imagine anyone more rightwing than him, has sent his daughter to Cal to get her advanced degree. I forget whether it is a Masters or a PhD, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is that he wanted her to get that degree at an incredibly good school. (She went to MIT to get her undergrad degree).

not quite sure but that also includes peer reviews , overall academic and university standards etc.......when looking at pure academics, Cal is even higher than # 21 (#1 public university) and I know UT has very good engineering and business schools........in fact Cal and UT's business school are right next to each other and though Cal all around has #3 behind Stanford and MIT enginnering but ranks #1 in 3 disciplines there, UT ranks first in one of the enginnering disciplines and 3rd in another......very good showing.......

wow......she must be smarter than hell, MIT and Cal, but yeah like most liberal universities....like most of them, you get out of the Social Sciences and Journalism dept and it is pretty much serious competitive stuff....oh yeah, Boalt Hall, the law school is pretty lib too but for the most part it is do or die......no time for politics...most people here just walk around most of the liberal activist idiots.......they are colorful but that is about it
