Only 4 schools would have their athletes miss any more school, so that argument is bogus.

Not for the schools involved. As things stand now teams have the luxury of Christmas/Winter break and they use the time to prepare for their Bowl Games, usually with a week or so at the Bowl site. They aren't juggling classes and football practice.

Most(perhaps all) universities are still out this week, so a game this weekend doesn't affect them. So that leaves only 2 teams where it might affect the athlete's academics, but that would be for only 2 weeks at most (at the beginning of the semester), hardly a big deal. Especially since football players miss less class than the basketball players. Then add in that even the best football programs are on average only going to make it to the final game about 1 of every 5 years at most, and probably even less frequently. Since many classes only meet once or twice a week, not much different than a snow day.
