Auburn beats VA Tech in the Sugar Bowl, 16-13, to finish the season undefeated. 2 days ago Utah whipped Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl to also complete an undefeated season.
USC and Oklahoma play tomorrow night in the bogus national championship game, but in truth, once again no one will know who was the best team this season.
The Texas "whining" was, in reality, a power play by the coaches in the Conference. They banded together to get Texas into a better bowl, which meant more bowl money distributed to the teams in the conference (and hence, the coaches who were involved in the "fix").
Hehehe...
I remember one "National Championship" that Alabama split with Southern Cal - after SC had beaten Alabama during the regular season! Chalk that on up to bogus, sectional voting.
Virginia Tech played USC even tougher than they played Auburn. None of this can be settled until we have a playoff. Does anyone think that USC would have run the table in the SEC? C'mon get real.
Maybe because the hillbily just gouged his eye. Didn't you notice Caddy having eye drops put in later?
Maybe you didn't see the same game I did.
About the BCS championship, I really could care less. Auburn winning the SEC championship meant more to me. Politics enters very little into straight up games. It's no coincidence that every year the Big 12 is overrepresented in the BCS ranks; a Big 12 guy heads the BCS.
And for all you Bama fans who are taking pleasure at Auburn not being anointed national champs, how does it feel to fall so far from greatness that all you can is pitifully whine at winners?
It's great to be an Auburn Tiger; it always has been, and it always will be - win or lose.
That canard is repeated every year that Bama or UT don't win.
wtf would tx be in the mix?
winner of utah v. auburn should play ou v. sc
while the OU margin against it's opponent in common with utah is smaller, SC's victories are much more impressive:
co st. scores 31 against utah and sc shuts em out?!
sc more than doubled utah's mov over az
actually, even if SC only wins (like a texan) by a point, their higher mov than auburn and utah over common opponents and current #1 ranking will be enough for an undisputed NC
only ou can now prove that SC is overrated
Well yeah, the best situation would have been USC, OU, Auburn, and Utah in different bowls hosting the weakest 4 BCS teams. But I was keeping the example simple and sticking with what the matchups and winners were for this year, to make the point that an 8 team playoff (which would pretty much satsify most critics for now) would be as easy as keeping everything the same as it is, except let the 4 BCS bowl winners play it out in a 3-game/2-week playoff.
No need to get your panties in a bunch.
ROFL. It will be decided tonight. Last night Cadillac Williams had his name changed to Kia Williams.
Sorry, but there is no way to convince me, and many others, that OU is better than Utah. And I'm not even sure that OU is better than Auburn. OU barely beat an A&M that Utah whipped(though away vs. home could be an issue), only beat 12-0 a Texas that barely beat a 8-3(now 8-4) Michigan(blown out by a down year Ohio State) by a point. An OU that all the 'experts' were claiming were so great until they laid an egg against K. State. And for that matter USC wasn't that impressive against VA Tech, especially if you take away the zebras. I'd rank USC #1 right now, but there is no way to definitively know if they are the best without a playoff. Same for LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and all the other mythical champs from prior years. They won a beauty contest, nothing more.
hey smartmouth, any panties found in my possession were surrendered voluntarily by your [insert wife, girlfriend, mother here]
stop popping off, watch the game tonight, and the speculation will end with OU vindicating all the trashtalking of the Pac-10 here or a bunch of folks will have to eat crow--Auburn certainly didn't do it with last night's performance
vtech is the dirtiest team in CFB, period.
AU had to win big to get a share of the NC and they didn't, so tonite it's for all the marbles.
Congrats to AU on a great season, and the SEC is still the toughest conference IMO. (I'm not an SEC alum, just a CFB fan.)
The problem with the BCS this year was that four teams went undefeated. Practically unprecedented. Without scheduling an additional bowl there was never any way to sort that out based on W-L records.
I think Utah could have given any of the others a real fight, but I agree with someone upthread who remarked that a playoff system will never happen. The conference ties to bowl payouts is too strong for them to give that up. If you don't think the Pac-10 is pissed about Texas sneaking past Cal to play in the Rose Bowl, you're not paying attention to fundamental economics.
I don't disagree with you that a playoff system would be better for us armchair quarterbacks. It would. But it's up against overwhelmingly powerful forces and the best they can come up with now is a compromise called the BCS which is never going to satisfy everyone. It's doomed because of the conference bowl ties.
Still, the BCS managed to schedule a game between two unarguably great teams with the first matchup between Heisman Trophy winners in history. And it will have two of the finalists at running back. It may not be a great game on the field, but it sure is on paper.
Auburn faced ONE top 50 passing team in 13 games
auburn and the SEC are done after last night's performance
if OU wins, then it'll be mostly texans popping off about how they're #2
of course, OU & TX are legit #1 & #2 . . . in the toilet bowl series
Auburn lost zero games this season.
How many did Cal lose?
Cal is done too--is that news to you?
This year or last?
ND & Tulane defeated the Middies in 2004.
We lost to Delaware last year (2003). We werent able to make our option work against notre dame this year. I dont know why.
As for tulane they couldnt run shit on the ground against Navy this year. The Reason why they won was because they had excellent recievers and the qb was able to air out the ball on 3rd and long. That was the only time this year a qb has been able to do that to navy.
