The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The only thing I don't like about hers is the suede seat. It's sticky on pants and actually can make you bounce more than if you can slip into a deeper seat as the horse moves.

Me. I picked it out because of the cantle. I was having a really hard time getting my right leg over. It was also on sale:') She says Eddies has a wider seat and doesn't slip like mine but mainly that I have nothing to steady myself during rocky times whereas with his I can reach back and hold the cantle instead of going forward towards the horn. I'm going to try his awhile before I make up my mind.

Good reasonable advice. I know I'd want the right to call a vet.

What I wonder is if I am in slippery footing if I give injections. ~shrugs~ I'd hope I could just honestly do what I can.

Whichever is more comfortable for you, assuming both fit the horse equally well.

Okay, I just checked. Flunixamine is generic Banamine so it should be virtually the same.

Our vet gave a second Banamine to Bay because Bay relapsed after six hours. Have you talked to the vet tonight since this happened?

I can't believe you got a toilet for Christmas.

That's as bad as the year my dad got my mom fifty feet of anchor chain for our boat.

LOL...I wouldn't ride in anything but a suede seat. That's one reason I've taken so long getting an English saddle

Why would you think a suede seat would make you bounce more?

He usually gets me jewelry but I want a shower for Valentines:') He's starting to hussle a little. I've been talking about hiring the honey do man. My bathroom has been gutted for about a year.

Because you stick on top of it instead of sliding down? Seems that way to me. ;~D

Well - you'd probably be on slippery footing if the horse got worse.

We do whatever is necessary and then just tell our vet when he gets here what we've done.

Our contract has several clauses in it but if push came to shove, I don't know that they'd do us any good.

"I consent to any medical treatment deemed advisable in an emergency, and understand any medical fees incurred shall be paid in full by me. Trails End Ranch shall have no liability for the outcome of the treatment".

"Trails End Ranch Agrees to take every precaution to protect the horse from illness, accident, fire and theft. The stable owner and/or stable management shall not, while exercising reasonable care, be held responsible for accident, illness, fire or theft."
