The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Starting a riding club is a great idea. A friend and I started a County chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council years ago. They are an affiliation, of The American Horse Council. It was always a good time, riding and having cookouts. Here is a link to the Horseman's Corral publication. Most of the clubs are in Ohio, but a lot of them post their newsletters and minutes of meetings to give you an in-site. You will have to register to read online, but it is free. Good Luck!

I saw that our warm front going to give yall a mess. It's raining or drizzling rather, here today and it's chilly. I've been thinking about hot chocolate and for some reason ,grilled cheese and stew and then it hit me. The cook planned and ran the kitchen when I was in Jr High and that's what she always cooked for us when the weather got cold. We had to go outside to get to the cafeteria and you could smell it when you went in. Guess what we are going to have for supper tonight? :')

I am involved in so much now though that I want it to be enjoyable and not get bogged down in a lot of responsibilities. You know, the 80/20% rule:')We just have to keep it fun.

Exactly! Too many times, they start out that way, and end up, with members fighting among each other. Can't please everyone all the time. BTW, The Corral is an excellent read. They might even send you a free copy, if requested.

Good morning,
I have snow today, cold and more snow forecast, starting tonight. Predictions of 1-2 feet on the valley floor (that's me)

I am really beginning to hate winter :) Maybe I already said that.

Had freezing rain and sleet mostly yesterday. It froze shut the door on the barn and I could not get into the barn. Had to go in through the pasture and through the side, up, over and around, etc. All the animals laughed at me and where wondering what in the world I was doing.

Just for that alone, you deserve a nice cup of hot cocoa!
