The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Dang, you sound just like my husband. Do you guys memorize all the same lines?

Did you know that I have 5 kids? Ages 15 down to 5. Anyway, on the 3rd kid, I said something really stupid to a doctor. I had a c-section so I had an epidural. Afterwards, when the nurse was removing the epidural, it got stuck so she went and got the anestheologist (sp?) to come get it out. He put me back in the position I was in when he inserted it and it came right out. He commented, "see, I told you I could pull it out." I said, "yeah, my husband told me the same thing 9 months ago and look what happened."

Biggest laugh I've ever gotten.

We are getting some kind of cold something falling from the sky... really light sleet maybe. I can hear it hitting the porch roof, but I can't see anything. It's too cold for it to be anything but frozen drizzle.

I fed their breakfast inside, But they probably resent it. They'd be out in it if I wasn't thinking for them ;~D

At least I feel better.

My horses are out, by their choice. So I don't feel bad. I feel worse for Grizzly, I put him out as soon as he got up. I can hear him scratching at the back door. But I know that he's going to in like a tornado and I'm not in the mood for that.

Yeah. We all go to 'Pick-up School' when we turn 16. It's a tradition that goes back to shortly after women had a choice in the matter.

That's true, some are sooo ugly they are cute but this dog was useless. My husband and a couple of our kids were out bike riding at a park by the lake. This poor skinny bird dog comes up to them looking for a friend. They felt sorry for the dog and brought him home. We found out later why somebody dumped that dog at the lake. We ended up taking him to the local humane society, they said that they were full up and would take him but kill him that day. Grrrrr Took the stupid dog back home and started bribing friends to take him. Finally paid a friend that hunts and has bird dogs $100 to take the dog. I don't want to know what happened after that.

My BIL gave us a dog that looked like a wolf with blue eyes and howl. Can't remember the breed. My husband couldn't believe his brother gave him away. (My BIL doesn't give anything away) The dog bit off my chicken heads and went thru a screen and went after my son's guinna pig. Those were just a couple of his accomplishments. I gave him away. I told the lady what happened but she was mesmerized by him and couldn't believe that I was just giving him to her. She was warned but....hehehe

I wish I could stay and chat but I have to go to work. Be back on my break. Next week I'm going to start getting out of here earlier. I'm going to have to be at my new job in Feb at 8. Groan. I guess I'll have to start getting up at 6.

Good morning. Had freezing rain and sleet mostly yesterday. It froze shut the door on the barn and I could not get into the barn. Had to go in through the pasture and through the side, up, over and around, etc. All the animals laughed at me and where wondering what in the world I was doing. A couple of inches of snow now and ground froze up again which is good since we had a bit of rain and everything was very sloppy for a few days. Sun came out for about 10 whole minutes, was so bright could not even look toward it, was wonderful to see, but of course it is gone again back behind the clouds and all is lovely and gray again. Just thinking of the movie Christmas in Connecticut, realized the whole Christmas season went by and did not watch it. Funny show, she is a writer living in city apartment but has all her readers fooled into believing she is in the country. Well after I make flap jacks for the kids, we will sit by the fire in are rocking chairs and do some reading and watch the snow fall.

This dumb bird dog went after my neighbors chickens and they sure were mad. Told the neighbors the dogs history and said if it's going after chickens, we were killing it. She must have been a member of Peta, she didn't want us to kill the dog.

Was the guinea pig ok? My daughter has a guinea pig farm out at the barn, we really like them. They have a huge pen, about the size of a large living room, with indoor and outdoor runs. I think we are up to about 40 pigs by now. Anybody want one?

Yeah physically he was fine but prefered his cage after that:') I forgot the best one though. We lived in the country in a double wide with a huge front porch and someone left the door open. I was sleeping because I worked nights and I heard all kinds of racket in the kitchen. I was always getting on the kids for running around the counter and I thought they were home from school playing . I opened my bedroom door and white fur flying everywhere. He had chased a rabbit into my house. I'm half asleep and chasing a dog around the house that was chasing the bunny. I finally tackled him and the rabbit went out the door.

Good mornin'! LOL...afternoon.

We're still under a state of emergency here. (Morgan co.) They said that the river is expected to crest sometime TONIGHT at 13-14 feet...flood stage is 11'.7.

I hear tell that we may be paid a visit by Noah, sometime soon.
