Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Prez can't eat hay or anything dry because of his esophagus - it has a pouch in it that will fill up and cause him to choke.
How is SL today?
I was but it was late by the time we got the truck back and then my horse stuck herself on something and I had to go out there. It's a seven hour drive (one way) and would have ended up a turn around trip. We'll try again in a few weeks.
You sure Sugar pg? (just kidding)
Just very uncomfortable, and somewhat irritable. She was fine with me, but she was unusually unhappy with Misty being close to her fence line. She did stand for me and I felt the area around her tail bone, which was soft.
RoS thinks she looks a little different. Her edema seems to have gone down some, and moved toward the front, I think.
We've just checked on her, and she seems o.k. right now. As usual, we'll be keeping an eye on her.
If not, we need to cut waaaaaaay back on the feed. She's 2 inches taller laying down than standing up!
Good, thanks for letting me know. The closer she gets, the further she will want to be away from other horses - in a pasture situation she would go off by herself somewhere. Glad to hear the edema may be going down too.
Very unusual condition.... what about grass?
Doing fine. I couldn't even see a break today and no signs of infection. I had to take the two grandbabies out there with me and I was concerned how I was going to get stuff done but it worked out good. I pulled up to the pasture and walked her to my jeep. The kids loved watching her from there seats and she stood still untied as I treated her from the hatchback without tying her.
No, it would also pack and cause the same problem.
Great - boy she is a sweetheart isn't she :)
Most of the time but she has her days:')
Well, we'd love to have you up on our who's who, if you came back and posted often enough for us to see you!

They also produce an alfalfa cube by the bag at most feed stores. I supplement with those when I feel the Orchard, Timothy mix is not up to my standards.
We have alfalfa cubes at my stable for treats.

How old are your horses/foals before you tie them to something solid?
Becky
Well, I only bought a curry brush and some vet wrap at the auction. It was interesting. The bad part was that Eddie picked me up after church and we went right on over. I had not eaten and we had about 30 minutes to kill after we looked at the stuff so we went to a brunch buffet (holiday inn) It cost us 32 dollars. For eggs and bananas! I guess they saw us coming:'(

Two have been shown as weanlings so they were tied at wash racks and in the trailers about 5-6mos old. Generally sometime after they are weaned and the earliest we've ever weaned is 5mos, usually it's six.
