How old are your horses/foals before you tie them to something solid?

Boy, that varies a lot. Depends on what we're doing with them (showing, etc.) and their personalities. They usually go in cross ties before they get tied and we will also thread their lead rope between the bars of a stall to hold them so they learn they can't break free if we're medicating or something like that but one of us is holding the end of the lead rope so it isn't really solid.
Two have been shown as weanlings so they were tied at wash racks and in the trailers about 5-6mos old. Generally sometime after they are weaned and the earliest we've ever weaned is 5mos, usually it's six.

I think teaching to tie at a highline can't be beat. It gives a little yet holds to pressure... it won't break, and they can't hurt themselves if the ground around them is clear.... And I don't think they are as likely to fall down as they are tied hard.
