Nothing smells better than fresh baled hay, IMO.
I won't feed moldy hay or hay that is stored outside, except for tightly baled round bales. My round bale man brings me these huge, tightly baled bales that you can't even stick a finger in, it's baled so tight. They weigh about 1200 pounds each so you have to have a good sized tractor to move them around.
One time I bought square bales from the most popular feed store in this area and I found dried horse poop in it. I was so mad I could hardly see. You can sure spread disease that way.
Hi, we have CHARLIE as our background now! LOL
DJ and I bought 3 round bales and put them on our trailer, we got the first two off by hand (and feet pushing) but the last one was impossible.we just left the trailer and hay in the field : )
You dweeb, I meant that you might post SOME MORE pics.
I want to look at insect and weed control at the stock show. Might be something new I've missed.
Well all, we are off now, have a good weekend, especially Cindydawg!
Will catch up on Sunday. : )
LOL That's terrific! I wonder if there is a way I could record her bray and post it on here. That way you could have the pic bray...
Be careful and have a good time!
Well that's what they reccommend.
But:)...when going from hay/grain to these pellets I don't.
But going back to hay/grain from the pellets is where you have to be careful.
Is what happens is the horses tummy shrinks up quit a bit (You won't get those ugly grass/hay bellies:), because their not on the bulky hay/pasuture. If they're on these pellets then you suddenly start giving them all the hay they want/need, because of the smaller stomach they can colic.
My mare that I brought home Wed. went straight from hay/grain to the pellets and is doing fine. When I send her back after the foal, I'll start gradually giving her hay over a week or so time to get her ready.

To me, that's the best way to feed round bales, other than inside a run in shed with a hay ring around it. Where I used to live, I'd keep 2 rolls on a 16' trailer out in the pasture all the time. The mares loved it. It keeps it up out of the mud. They would clean the trailer off about every 3 weeks. Of course they waste alot, but it's cheaper so I didn't care.
Those round bales are a pain to mess with if you don't have a big tractor. To be honest, though, it does scare me. You can have a horrible accident with a tractor if you aren't paying attention to what you are doing. I try not to let my mind wander when I'm mowing with it or moving heavy bales.
We have to go pick up some stuff out of a shed. My BIL has our flat bed in Houston so we are taking the horse trailer. I guess we will look real red necked bringing back a refrig, washer and dryer in it:')
Have fun:')
We'll need pics!
When my husband and I just got married, we had zero money and were driving an old, green, mini pickup that had dents all in it. We looked like ma and pa kettle.
That would be in interesting discussion on this board - the use of chemicals to control insects and weeds vs. using organic means.
Discuss among yourselves..
"We looked like ma and pa kettle."
and you smelled like them, too!
Why don't you start the topic? What's your opinion?
I talked to Inge_Cav yesterday and got the names of his horses. The two geldings are Dan and Bob and the mare is Suzy.

We've moved more toward the organic methods since we moved back into town. Of course its easier to do when you are only dealing with a small yard, not 15 acres like we used to have. Organic methods work but you have to be very patient because it can take up to two years to see an impact
Hey, when I moved this last time, that's what we used. I've got a 3-horse slant and we took the partitions out and it worked really well. The only problem was it wasn't quite tall enough for some things. The china cabinet came in 2 pieces, so it was no problem, but the antique fireplace mantel had to be turned on it's side. Of course it took us 2 months to move, but that's another story.
Hey, we took baths every saturday!
