Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I agree with hair. Take down that barbed wire as soon as you can, and put some electric wire up there instead. Much safer. And they'll respect it instantly. Though some are more pigheaded than others....
Wow! Pretty horse! He doesn't look very happy though.
Ecurbh, the Who's Who page looks really nice. I like it that you can double-click on a picture to enlarge it. Really nice! Thanks for doing it. I've got one more horse, Grace, that I'll try to get a picture of sometime. Thanks again!
Thanks, that is really cool. So many pretty horses. And we can see them anytime we want now. Great idea:)
Becky
Your palamino is really nice. I like her. You ever going to bred her?
Becky
That's fantastic! Congratulations!
No, he wasn't very happy there, she's showing him in dressage, and I think he often has a pretty strong opinion about being told what to do!
Thanks.
Becky
Ya'll aren't gonna believe what I found out in the cow pasture adjacent to the mares when I went to feed tonight. A DONKEY! More specifically, a jenny. She was so CUTE! My FIL must've put her there sometime today to protect the new baby calves, but I'm afraid she's not going to be much good at it coz all she wants to do is hang around the fence where my mares are and bray. He's had her a while and she's really tame but she's never been in this particular pasture before. He used to have her together with a jack and that's what I was afraid she was when I first saw those big-ass ears. The LAST thing I wanted was for my fillies to get stuck with some little half-ass jackasses. ;o) I took her picture and I'll post it tomorrow coz she's a cutie!
But a gaited mule would be very cool!
I love those things.
At the vets, she had a pen with some goats, and 1 tiny miniature horse. I didn't realize it was a horse for a second, he wasn't any bigger then the goats. He is her teasing stud:)
I wish I'd thought to take a picture, but that was when we were leading Belle into the clinic for her exam. I had other things on my mind.
I was proud of her tho, she did real good going into the stocks. Only backed out once. Just needed to get a good look at it.

I had the same problem myself. The cheat sheet that someone posted helped, but I never seemed to have it with me. This way I can just click up my favorites when I'm reading about someone and go right to it. :o)
I do plan to breed her, when my daughter goes off to college in 2 years. Except for being a little herd bound, she has a very nice temperment. When I bought her, both parents were on sight. They were pretty old but had decent conformation and nice dispositions. I sure wouldn't mind having more like them.
Yes and very expensive. But you need a gaited jack to get one and even then it's iffy. Cav tried it once with an old TWH mare that someone had given him. The jack wasn't gaited, but the old mare was so pacey that we thought that the two might even out, but it didn't, she trotted just like her dad. She was a sweetheart of a mule though (anything Cav raises is spoiled rotten) and she might have been able to be made to gait by putting a heavy shoe on the back but he sold her instead. Maybe he has a picture of her he can post.
Poor mares, I feel sorry for them when you take them to be palpated or ultrasounded. That's GOT to be VERY uncomfortable. My mares are both really good about it. Lord knows they've been ultrasounded more times than I can count (I had trouble getting them both bred the first time). But my vet used to play football at Mississippi State and his arms are HUGE! YEOUCH!!
Yes, she was born solid with two or three white spots and one dun spot on her rump. Mom and dad both leopards :)
TE Mighty Independent "Indy" 1997 gelding, DIL and I (you can deepsix the picture of her and Indy on the Pony Express ride)
Husband riding Class President "Prez" 1995 gelding so now you can deepsix pic of Bob, Adam and Tracey riding. The page looks so great, and I apologize for switching pictures on you.
I can open here. This is wonderful. Thanks so much for doing it.
Thank you sir. Your really are a sweetheart :)
