The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Boy do I - the grapevine gets real interesting some times. If I were her though, I would sell them, the color will help as will the size since they can go for pony club type stuff. Then get a good broke horse.

I like grey Arabs well enough, especially when they are young and still steel grey in color. But you can't get too fond of it, they'll get lighter every year.

You're right the color should be secondary, that's why with that Tovero, we bred for conformation, not guaranteed color. Taffy, the mare, was built like a Mack truck in the body, but with the little tiny feet and stubby legs common to AQHA types lately. They bred to a very thoroughbredy Paint with long legs. They didn't get color, but they did get legs. And legs are important.

She grew up to be a fine looking horse.

First off, it looks like I owe you an apology. I was assuming you were a he but it looks like you are a she (unless you're one of those kinds of he's)

Not much into Meg Ryan movies so not sure what you're referencing but I do recall that one Seinfield episode where Elaine informed Jerry that they were all fake.

"And legs are important."

Ask any man if that's true or not.

Do ya'll see why that horse is a tovero? A true tobiano has a solid face, except for maybe a blaze or a snip or something, not a bald face like that horse. An overo has a bald face, but no white color crossing over his back. Hence, she's a cross between an overo and a tobiano.

(I'm sure you know this, Hair. I'm explaining to Keith.)

I'm possibly one of "those" kinds of guys, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hey everyone! Last night when we were talking and we suddenly wanted to see a picture of Cindy's horse, I asked ecurbh if he would to a "who's who page" for us, with pictures. He's got it started, with our pictures, names of horses, and location. If everyone would choose pictures to post to him of yourselves and your horses, he'll add y'all to the page as we go. Most of the regulars, we've already got a spot waiting for, in alphabetic order. If you aren't on the list and want to be, let us know!

Take a look! and ping ecurbh with your pictures you'd like to post! When this is done, I'll post it at the start of the thread so we can always find it.

I love it! Can you post the pics that are on the "thread 2" ? My pics are on posts 1898, 1899,1907 and 4839. I don't know how to repost them, my husband did it.

How do you put those nice frames on your pics?

(Maybe you'll inspire me to finally DO an "about" page. . . )

I just remembered to send you that video clip I told you about last night. Let me know if you get it.

Heh.... this clip really is funny. We uploaded it so you could all see. It's hokey, but you can sure tell those guys have spent a LOT of time working with and training that pony. I think my pony has a really trick-oriented personality, I just don't know how to stick with it long enough to teach it.

For best streaming.... right click the link and select 'save target as' to save it to your desktop, and play it from there.

Here's one . . . I'll have to track down some more. I overloaded my free photo site and the digital pix take up tons of room, so I took some older stuff down.

Oh my gosh! Did your vet say that Sugar's tummy is normal? I don't think I've ever seen a pregnant mare's belly like that.
