The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

thanks. One thing though, i wont be embarrassed. I would rather be safe than sorry and I am not the only one that thought she looked strange. She is just my Favorite horse and I want the best for her. It wouldnt hurt for the vet to check her anyway this late on.
Good night! Look for how it went on tommorow......

I'm gonna hit the sack too. I'll be checking in and hoping all goes well with the vet tomorrow. G'nite!

His papers have him as an overo.

I never though of Sarah Lee being an overo. If, big if, I breed her I had thought of a local overo that looks like Okie.

I'm hanging around for awhile so if anything happens - post it. And I won't be embarrassed either if the vet thinks we all panic too easily. He can call my vet and my vet will explain that I do that frequently but other than that I'm harmless.

Hmmm... He has the other Overo features.. like the dark loin, but his color definately crosses over the spine at the neck.

Ask the breeder about it... There's other factors involved in the risk. Have you worked on whether you can get papers for her with the prior owner?

I can't see this picture either. I'm going to be off for 10 minutes and run SpyBot - something is wrong here.

I asked the trainer again tonight. She says she'll ask next time she see the guy because she forgot last time.

His registration just says bay/overo. He goes 3 lines on the sire as overos. Could that be why?

thanks for your support. I would rather spend the money and be sure. DJ is the opposite.......i think he would rather wait, cause she doesnt appear to be in pain, but, because she is showing all the signs of being ready (as far as i know) and because of this extra saggy "tire" bulge underneath her that happened, and because my trainer was a little concerned, i want her checked. Some women spend all their money on clothes................mine goes on animals! LOL

What else? I only saw the fatal intestinal/stomach disorder.

No... that's not what I meant... I meant there are other risk factors figure in to whether you are likely to get fatal white than simply breeding two overos.

Well, apparently I'm remembering wrong... it's not head to tail, They're called overo if they are solid ~wither~ to tail over the spine... APHA.Com - Overo Pattern The neck doesn't matter.

:) My son runs the adoption side of a rescue organization. I have three rescued cats living in the house. I have five living outside. I have two goats and a llama that needed homes. I have two bearded dragon lizards and two ball python snakes. And two love birds. All rescues. On top of my horses and chickens and dogs - oh, one of the three is a rescue. I panic at the drop of a hat and am more than willing to have a vet come out to tell me all is well. Lot of the time it isn't. :(]

Buy my clothes at thrift shops, all my money goes into animals.
